After reading 'cogdoc' thread of going from a XR8 to a Golf I thought that I would add my thoughts. I am trading in on a Golf the XR6 Turbo, these cars are fast in fact the XR6T will leave behind the XR8 until about 200klm/hr. When passing on the open road, put your foot to the floor at 90ks and by the time you pass the other vehicle you will being traveling above the speed limit by at least 40ks. The fuel usage is about 50 liters /100 at that speed. Tyres lasted 30k . no ground clearance over speed bumps etc. When I test drove the Golf, Peugeot and Mondeo I though that these would feel like a pedal car after the XR6T. But I was surprised that the amount of pull that these motors have ...The Peugeot and the Mondeo have the same engine [ 2 lt diesel ] . The Golf has the same size motor put is tuned to produce more go from take off. The Golf suits me best. I am looking forward to the savings on the oiler. I think that the big bangers have been superseded by modern technology.
