  • PCV Replacement

    Hi All

I've just passed 100K kms on my MY09 GTI and have noticed a new intermittent squealing sound coming from the engine bay. Difficult to explain, but it kind of sounds like somebody is slowly letting down a balloon... Does this sound like PCV on the way out?

As I've now done 100K kms, I plan to replace PCV and Fuel Pump Cam Follower with the following kits from ECS Tuning

    PCV Kit
    Volkswagen Golf V 2.0T Engine Emissions ES#8209 Emissions Service Kit - 06F198202

    Cam Follower Kit
Volkswagen Golf V 2.0T Engine Fuel ES#2609354 Cam Follower Replacement Kit - 06D109309CKT

Is ECS the best place to order the parts from? Or should I just pick up parts from the local VW dealer?

    Thanks

Purchasing from ECS will depend on the cost of shipping which is likely to be $100 or more so you need to price the parts locally to be able to make the decision. It could be the PCV but have you done further checks like is there uneven idle, vacuum that makes it hard to remove the oil filler cap when the engine is running. It could be the accessory belt, the air con compressor or even the alternator which is generating the squealing noise.

You can get both of these items locally mate for cheaper.

PCV: Pressure Control Valve (PCV) - Euro Revolution

Cam Follower: Fuel Pump Cam Follower - Euro Revolution

Not worth buying from ECS just for those two items. You really need 5+ items to make it worth while because of the shipping cost.

I always shop locally when I can. The VW part from your local dealer is cheap enough and hustle free.

Really? Whats the difference? I've read that the latest 'P' revision part is strongest but also requires an updated breather pipe. Part numbers are:

            PCV: 06F129101P
            Breather Pipe: 06F103215B

Will these parts work on my (AU model) car?

You're best off seeing your dealer with your VIN, if you're not sure.

              I don't think they're that dear locally.

When they did mine a little while back they listed the 'N' revision, which is stock on Golf R's.
I havent managed to blow this one yet.

Ive got the one off my Golf R out in a box in my garage - removed it at about 7,000-8,000km. I'll probably never use it again. $50 and its yours if you want.
