Im not the one that was wanking on about the reviews and timings etc etc.. I thought long and hard (6 Months of umming and aaaaring) and test drove both types (+ GTIs TDI etc) prior to my Purchase of a R32, my opinion is not biased what as i went looking with a open mind.
I enjoy rude crude and raw! so thats what won me over
(in saying that im 21 years of age so naturally thats how i roll)

You lot have completely missed my point.. I do like the MKV, but the MKIV is the one for me

in essence what i am saying.. is that we are comparing a apple and a orange i think they are both fantastic cars in their own rights!

and im quite happy with my MKIV, and im not here to start fights over nothing, they are both cool cars

    as i always say!

your right im not worrying about nurburgring when im idling thru Auckland Traffic in 1st gear

I was told this quite some time ago.. but i think i had that point proven wrong to me by Treza! all i know is in general in NZ we get Euro Spec cars. and the Australian versions are generally based off other market versions (ie specs suspention ratings etc etc)

MK5 IMO is for people who want the R badge without the R harshness. Do you people know what R stands for? Wasn't this the main point of the car? MK5 should be called S32. That suits it better. I dont think that MK4 was ever ment to be a daily driver.

Yeah, it always strikes me as odd to be agruing performance merits between two cars who's competitors leave them for dead in pure performance stakes for the similar money. I mean, even our GTI brothers can out perform the R in a straight and start to match it through corners with a few mods still totaling less than the cost of either R when they were new... so maybe the GTI is actually the better car and we should be comparing it too? In which case, every R owner is some sort of moron for not buying the car they could get more performance out of

So, if the Mk4 R32 is this hyper performance model with unforgiving ride to make it a pure performance car and not a daily driver... it fails. It fails so badly that if it were a submarine, it'd be called 'collins class'. It could never compete even when it was new. It f.... a... i... l...s. You Mk4 owners clinging to this dream that you bought a true pure bread performance car are smoking some serious crack. Care to share? It seems to work well with the rose coloured glasses.

On the other hand, the Mk5 is built and designed as a performance tourer. So, it doesn't need to compete with STi's and EVO's of the world. In this case, it OWNS the Mk4 because it suceeds with it's design intent. The Mk4 fials at being a true performance car, it fails at being a daily driver and it fails at being a tourer. Exactly why did you Mk4 guys buy such a POS??

Hang on - i get it now! The Mk4 R32 owners finally think they've found a 'competing' car that their car is better than. That's why they like to make such a big deal about posting how good the Mk4 is compared to the Mk5. It all makes sense now... It's just a shame they still lose as one delivers on it's intent, and one fails on it's intent.

The fact the Mk4 owners keep coming in here to retort suggests even more...

i just took the car for a drive and i was sharing my impressions, im not sure who started all this. Both are nice cars, and eventually i'll get the MK5, but for now MK4 suits me better. Maybe we should get one of the mods to lock/delete this thread coz it really doesn't have a point. Im regreting i started it. Some people just can't take the fact that others have different opinions.

even though I own a MKV R, I really love the look of the MKIV.

how could you not like the inflatable seat look and dodgy dated look of a beatup skoda.

best move VW did was to only bring 200 of them in.

hehehe this is a total pisser. lets keep this going!!!

If someone who is in the new car market approached you as VW owner and said "I think I am buying a new R32" - would we talk them out of it and tell them to buy a 3 year old MKIV version?

Truth is that today, a new car buyer will be buying a MKV - as that is what is on the market.

Geez didn't this turn into a cat fight.
All any of us MkIV drivers have said is that we mainly prefer the MkIV to the MkV R32. We have posted the things we don't like about the new ones but none of has ever said it's a rubbish car.
I posted up the back to back review articles because it's always interesting to see what the media makes of the older and newer cars. Note that I quoted what the article said and then stated my opinion which only mentioned that I wasn't fussed on the exterior styling.
So let's all put our penis's away because touching swords is gay (not that there's anything wrong with that if you're that way inclined ) and agree that both cars have their merits, are good at being quick golfs but in different ways, and that you can spend dollars on any car to make it better and faster than other cars.
At the end of the day they're both VWs are they not?
