I don't think the market is that bad right now for used cars. More related to the bad press vw have been recieving.

A few people i know have ended up trading in their gti's for 'average' trade in values simple because they are too hard to move on private sales.

Be patient, the right buyer will come along.

Live in a good suburb on the eastern side of melbourne so that wouldnt be an issue.

Im in sales so definitely being very accommodating...

re: pricing. I have no idea - it seems reasonable for a GTI. I do know that my 2007 Octavia Elegance cost me $30k new in July 2008 & is now worth about $10k. Entry level GTIs were about $40k at the time IIRC.

my only other suggestion is to make sure you tell all your workmates, facebook friends, etc that you are selling because often they'll know somebody on the lookout for a good 2nd hand car.

Is this any help? Slightly re-arranged & reworded. If you keep the car in a garage or under a carport then make mention of it as well - people seem to like that.

Unfortunately, I am selling my much loved Golf GTI after 5 years of loyal service due to needing a bigger vehicle.

Not many GTI's have the list of options I do and the colour combo make it stand out.

My car features the following options on top of standard:
        - Cream Leather - very rare and looks great against the red
        - Heated Seats - Excellent for those cold mornings/nights
        - Electric Tilt & Slide Sunroof
        - Tinted Windows with high UV blockout
        - integrated GPS (with latest maps??) - Inc Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone Car Kit, USB, SD Card, AUX
        - Bluetooth connectivity for handsfree mobile phone
        - Reverse Sensors - Makes parking very easy
        - Tow Bar (what was this used for? Might be worthwhile not to even mention it.)

The vehicle has been regularly serviced & mainted in accordance with the Volkswagen service schedule.
The major 120,000km service has been done including the timing belt so it will be another 7 years of motoring before this is due again.
As the photos show, both the interior & extorior of the vehicle are in above average condition.
The tyres are in good condition with plenty of tread remaining & a quality battery was recently fitted.

Registration is paid until July next year & a Roadworthy Certificate will be supplied with the vehicle.

Not going to bang too much about how good the car is because if you are looking at purchasing this model, you already know how good it is, and why it won car of the year for so many years (the reasons I bought it 5 years ago). Ive had a few good cars in my past and this was by far the best - so easy to drive, comfortable and fun. (I'd just leave this bit out - it's just padding)

Car is located in Lower Templestowe, VIC, and can be viewed after hours Mon-Fri and any time on the weekend. Feel free to give me a call to arrange a time to come see the vehicle. Pricing is negotiable.

          Thanks Brad,

I have gone ahead and taken your advise and changed the description. Lets hope the freshen up helps with the interest.

          Cheers,

          Daniel

You are on the money compared with it's peers for sale on that same website. I suspect maybe all the golfs of that range are asking a little too much money. That said I would expect some one who feels that way to go and have a look at yours and make an offer. I'm suprised. All I know is that I got my 2009 Pirelli edition with 2 years warranty, perfect condition, Full service history, chipped and 58,000kms for $22K.

It seems like a lot more, but it's less then half the mileage, almost half the age and better specification. I think maybe the newer models are going begging and that's affecting the price for yours.

                I'll throw in my 2c..
The tow bar, I'd actually remove it, maybe you might still have the bumper cover laying around? Golf's aren't meant for towing.

Front wheel needs a new center cap. Anyone who really cares about their car would fix things like that.

This is probably just me being picky but the phone holder behind the shifter makes me think you screwed it to the console or something. Also the leather could probably do with a clean.

                Good luck with the sale.

I'm european though and it's not uncommon to see many cars smaller then a golf V towing ridiculously large caravans so I've got a warped view on this subject. I think the towbar is a bonus myself, but I can see how it might put some people off.

(Incidently I use my mkV to tow a trailer load of motorcycles to eastern creek for ride days, and I'll tell you now it tows them up that long hill on the F3 a hell of a lot better then my mates ute.

I wouldn't remove the towbar. It's a bonus. So many people use them for bike racks these days that it wouldn't be an issue to me. I wouldn't make a song & dance about it either.

As anyone in sales knows, you have to remove any negativity that might put somebody off, so you highlight the positives.

If there are some minor blemishes that can be cheaply fixed then do so.

The car looked pretty clean to me.

I'm in the market for a 'new' car, and I originally hadn't considered GTI's, but I couldn't believe the price of them when I did look!

                      Some of my thoughts:

To me, the towbar is a bonus. It wouldn't break a sale, but might make one.

I think the biggest issue is just the range of years available, all seemingly relatively similar money. (give or take 4k)

Because there is so much choice I will be looking for something that has an immaculate interior and the paint/body would have to be very good too. Full service history (preferably at VW).

Seeing the photo with the centre cap does 'raise questions' and I generally don't like seeing mobile phone holders, etc.

The only two main things that put me off the car are the km's and year, just as there is so many options, that I'd really be looking for the 'youngest' car in my price range (initially at least). Price is smack bang in my range though.

I should also state, that I'm really after a TDI, so I wouldn't necessarily go an look at a GTI unless it was a "bargain". Hope my 2bob may help a bit.

                        Full service history is good.

All at VW? I'm not so sure. The calibre of personell is too variable & all the basic services will be done by the organ grinders monkey.

When you buy a used car you are paying for condition & unused mileage & the right car.

Yeah I have to admit I'd love a tow bar on mine for a bike rack. Its just that personally I'd be wary of buying a small car that has one installed. How do you know it hasn't had a hard time?

How many cars (big, little or in-between) with towbars do you see actually towing something? My idiot father-in-law drove around with his gooseneck & ball attached to his car for 12 years without ever using it. I kept suggesting he remove it for WHS reasons but he wanted it to "deter the driver behind him". WTF?

How do you know that the driver didn't go over speed humps without slowing? Or if they did burnouts, or warmed the car up in the driveway for 15 minutes every morning or jumped in & redlined immediately after start-up or farted a lot or a dozen other misdemeanors? Most of them can be easily covered up & you'd never notice a thing.

Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath & jump.

Cant see the towbar being an issue personally...

Same motor is in a Q5, toureg, tiguan, A4's etc and if you saw them towing a trailer with stuff, you wouldnt even think twice so dont see why its an issue just because its a smaller car... I would LOVE to get one on my current octy - so handy... bike racks, big stuff from bunnings with their courtesy trailer, taking stuff to the tip etc...

Didnt think the centre cap would be much of an issue, so i'll edit the description to note that I have already ordered a full replacement set (which I have). Will also note that the phone mount is just stuck on so can be removed with no evidence.

Even then, if there are people seriously considering this car in general, I cant imagine that a missing centre cap would put them off... if it would, I dont think I would want to deal with them as I cant imagine what they would do when trying to negotiate...

Ive always been a both side wins kind of guy tho... Ive never wanted to screw a guy when buying something, and it has generally paid me back karma wise...
