  • My car has arrived

Got the good news from Dan at Hwy VW this arvo. My R32 will be ready for pick up tomorrow 4pm.

Rang QBE this arvo for a cover note and they has to do the quote manually because under 08 R32 5Dr they only had manual transmission.

Anyway it came to $975 with $450 excess. I'm rating 1, 35ish (who's counting) . I checked out QBE first because of their 4 year replacement warranty if it's written off.

Anyone paying a lot less than that?

Can't wait! Just need to get finance finalised now.

        Will do definitely!

I'm nervous now because I have to drive the car I'm trading in home, to work tomorrow and then down to Hwy VW tomorrow arvo! Every nut on the road will be out to hit me for sure! Every nut except 1 that is!

Know what you mean, I have to drive from Milsons Point in Sydney to Penrith - 62km each way - to pick up the R32 and trade the Alfa in (assuming I can't sell it tomorrow)

Check Allianz for an online quote. I'm paying $100 less for my R32 than I did for my Pug 206 Gti through NRMA

They only have a 2 year replacement on new cars though if I'm not mistaken.

I'm looking towards CGU insurance myself as they do 3 year, are about $250 a year cheaper then QBE and you can pick your own repairer which you can't do with Allianz and QBE.

Of course I may still change my mind in the next 2 1/2 months before my car arrives.

Excellent point about being able to choose your own repairer. Something you don't really think about until it's too late.

Depends how you want to look at it I suppose. I'm 24 and the MkIV R32 is costing me about the same (Rating 1). I would've thought given your age that it would be cheaper than that, even if your car is new.

Yeah I would have thought so too. The guy on the phone did say "Oh category 6 car!". I said is that high and he said yes.

I am also rating 1, no accidents (in the last 5 years) and also more importantly no bankruptcies in the last 10! Classic question!

I think you might want to check the fine print when it comes to using NEW OEM parts for repair. I was with CGU for the last 5 years on my previous cars until I read that. Now am with AAMI for the R32. Similar pricing but they include OEM parts whilst the car is under warranty.

                        Just a thought.

                          Congrats mate!

Its awesome feeling that exhaust rumble behind you on your first trip home/out of the dealership. Finally...after all of that wait!

Make sure you check for the removal of the front suspension transporting spacers

Thanks. I think that the trap with the replacement after x years is that it's insured at an agreed value! Duh! Yes it's as obvious as it sounds I realise now!

Correct me if I'm wrong but as a smaller insurer Shannons would be slightly more expensive as they insure less and have greater risk of claims given their client base. Generalisation warning here!

Thanks for the tip. Yes finally after ALL that wait. It's doesn't seem like much of a wait now!

Wasn't AAMI on TT or ACA the other week? Something about supplier kick backs to assessors. Doesn't AAMI also choose your repairer?

iirc Shannons share the same underwriter with AAMI. which means everything equal, their quote should be the same as AAMI. (but obviously they're not equal).
