Around a $1,000 seems to be the going rate.

Big difference between dealerships and independent shops, though.

Ive been a vw tech for the past ten years and i would not recommend doing this job at home i have even seen vw techs stuff this job up it may sound easy reading it on the fourm but when you do its not as easy as it sounds pay someone who does it everyday it could end up costing you alot of money if something goes wrong..And $1000 sounds about right i charge $650 for this job with water pump..

So is that why you tell my customers that I get it so wrong, because I only do 1-2 a week & you do 5 a week LOL. Next time you decide to bag out my workmanship, can you at least refit the timing belt covers correctly! A BKD vehicle came in to me for a hard to start diagnosis & T-belt kit. I successfully diagnosed the starter motor to be the issue, but you insisted that I did the T-belt job incorrectly. At the end of the day you was proven wrong & my customer has since apologized. You have left many fires burning down Sth, so it makes me wonder if you actually left or ran away from the area? BTW I have been factory trained in Australia by the VW Group themselves for over 15 years & that was mostly in the capacity as foreman in 3 leading Sydney VW/Skoda/ Audi dealerships. I'm accredited to work at any VW AUDI & Skoda dealership in the world with my factory certified training records. You are self taught & just because you started off with air-cooled & progressed into water-cooled, does not make you an expert in this area. I personally have a very low opinion of any technician, that thinks the servicing of a car is to simply change the engine oil. Lubricating of door/bonnet hinges, cleaning out of Sun-Roof drains, Brakes need to be bled every two years, Haldex fluid on Tiguan's is at 45k I CAN GO ON...
Oh and to just keep placing new lube stickers over the top of existing stickers is just being lazy!
