  • How much is GTI steering wheel?

I just got my GTI back from the crash repairs after getting 3 alloy wheels repainted. They did an excellent job but the strangest thing happened. When I picked up the car from the dealer where the painter dropped it off, I noticed that the leather steering wheel is badly scratched at the top of the rim. I don't recall it being there before - my mother in law drives the car - but I don't feel comfortable blaming the dealer or painter either. Anyone know how much a new steering wheel (just the rim) for an 07 GTI would cost? (not cheap I'm thinking).

    I'll post a pic shortly...

looks like someone has been driving the car with a sharp ring on their fingers.

I'm able to wear the cost but I'm thinking I should take it up with the painter anyway. Someone must have noticed what they were doing.

Given the cost involved id be asking politely what happened, then see what follows through......nothing worse than a scratch you cant itch..

That's possible - but it is so obvious when you drive it, it would be hard to miss. I drove the car for half a day before dropping it off and didn't notice it but as soon as I turned away from the curb I felt it today. The scratch is so new you can see the torn leather proud of the surface.

I'll leave it. The car was driven by several people in the time it was away - the pick up guy from the paint shop, the paint guy, the drop off guy, the cleaner from the dealer, etc, etc.

Too hard in the end. I'll try to get someone to fix it at my cost and put it down to hard luck.

                            Thats a nasty scratch!

I looked at getting a wheel replaced in my old mazda and they quote me $700 for that POS (no leather there) so the GTI one has gotta be exy.
I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

You say you got it back form crash repairs? Insurance job or privately payed for?

If it's insurance, take it up with your insurer straight away. Let them decide who broke it and who has to pay for it. Why should you be out of pocket for something *someone* else did. Jump up and down enough until they fix it.

Did the paintwork get organised privately or through the dealer?

What I am suggesting it to go to the person who organised the work and demand they solve the problem. Afterall you instrusted your car into their care.

If it's a privately paid for job AND organised with the individuals, it's up to you to chase it up or pay for it yourself.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
