  • PCV issue with a GT Sport 1.4

    Hi Guys,
I have been running into an issue recently with my 2007 Golf GT Sport and what I think is it's PCV.

Essentially I have been lacking power in the lower rev range for the last couple of weeks and then the other night took off from a friends place put my foot down a bit, a lovely pop from the exhaust then engine warning light as I got down to the bottom of the road.

We plugged in the VCDS and this is what fault code came up:

    001092 - EVAP Purge Control Valve (N80)
    P0444 - 000 - Circuit Open - Intermittent - MIL ON
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 10110000
    Fault Priority: 0
    Fault Frequency: 3
    Mileage: 102941 km
    Time Indication: 0
    Date: 2000.00.00
    Time: 19:31:25

    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 2143 /min
    Load: 10.2 %
    Speed: 68.0 km/h
    Temperature: 78.0°C
    Temperature: 27.0°C
    Absolute Pres.: 1010.0 mbar
    Voltage: 13.716 V

Am I correct in thinking this is the PCV on it's way out, or something else??

Na...change the N80 valve ..EVAP canister and the round valve on top of the canister...this will get rid of the evap code....very common also on the 2.0 gti motor...VDUB.

The PCV valve that is commonly replaced on GTIs is the Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve

Are these easy to get parts?? Are they easy to change out or should I take it to someone to get done??

Lol, I didn't word that too well...I meant that the PCV problem is a GTI issue not a 1.4GT issue... EVAP is on GT and GTI...

Our GT Sport has reported the N249 Boost Pressure Control Valve. Somewhat ironically, that only came to light at a non-dealer service but the Freeze Frame data showed it being recorded just after the last dealer service when the dealer reported no problems. As it was under warranty at the time I can only wonder if they saw the error and cleared it at the service rather than do something about it.

The non-dealer service reported the CAN Gateway incorrectly coded with the mileage showing exactly when it was at the last dealer service, so I don't know what they might have been trying to do. And the dealer also said we would need to demonatrate a sticking door lock before they would do anything about it. I now know that door lock faults are stored in the diagnostics and were also recorded. I always had cars dealer serviced incase goodwill might have been required but, suffice to say, that last dealer service cured me of that (as far as VW go).
