  • Intake Question.

So I've had a Carbino intake, then I upgraded to a Forge TwinTake, and am thinking of going to a VW R intake.

Only reason being is that I bought a 42DD oil catch can. The issue is, I don't have enough room where it is recommended to sit because the passenger side pod is sitting where the catch can is meant to sit.

If I go with the VW R one, then I should have enough room for both.

However, the tapped plastic holes for where the Torx screws fasten to are completely worn out. This is towards the front of the car, grill area. Creating a bit of a rattle under load.

It's not part of the grill as such, I can tell that much, it seems to be something behind it. I would like to replace the part that has the two tapped holes to create a more secure fit.

Does anyone know the part number or what exactly it is? Ie: part of the grill, or front bar?

Before going to the expense and trouble of replacing this inner grill section, I would take a trip to your local auto/hardware shop and buy a thicker self tapping screw with a more aggressive thread. Try this first as this is what I did on my mates Mk5 GTi as he had the same issue with the stock screws falling out. Problem solved for only a few dollars.

Just bear in mind that you most likely wont be able to get Torx head screws, so I just used Phillips head screws.

Thanks. Didn't want to go this route, but ended up at Bunnings on other business and purchased some stainless steel self tapping Phillips head screws and washers. Now I just have to get the VWR intake to suit.

Found the part number as well. VW want too much for it.
