    correction of word

I have a july 2006 build Jetta TDI manual and have been happy so far.

    Just clocked over 175,000km.

Long term average is 5.86 litres per 100 km

Other than regular servicing and tyres, the only issue has been a recent one where the reverse sensors seemed to be on the fritz. Noticed no reversing light after the sensors did not give the audible beep when activated. Traced to transmission reverse switch and part of the wiring loom affected most likely from vibration. Fortunately my local VDUB independent specialist fixed with an all up price of $245.

Had my Jetta over two year now and love it !!

Gone to DoVW in Victoria 2012, Bug In 2013 in Blackheath and use to do daily highway driving.
No issues at all apart from a puncture.

The basic 2.0L FSI Mk5 Jetta was so well specced with features as auto lights, wipers and cruise contol taken much for granted.
I have looked at other VW models to replace the Jetta but can't find anything close to the value the Jetta offers.

I have done 63,000km in my Jetta

Ben our almost twin Jettas were fantastic,as you say came with everything as standard and I think the 2.o FSI ,tiptronic ,was a good combination.
Also I always felt offered better value than a Golf at the time...

Oh we've been happy with 07 VW Jetta TFSI DSG, but it has a couple of little problems here as it nears the 6yr mark.

The DSG is crunching gears now, and now the air con compressor is making nasty noises. A couple of years ago it had some nasty noises from the front suspension.

But it's nowhere near as bad as our old Land Rover. I liked that car too, but I'd never buy another.

Well on the basis of this thread I have just purchased a 2007 Jetta tdi dsg with 130,000ks on the clock. It has recently had the mechatronics unit replaced and apparently it has been log book serviced since new. The reason I say apparently is because I virtually bought it sight unseen from Sydney. My son flew down and drove it back to the Gold Coast for me. He said that he was very impressed. He has a Territory diesel. I have only driven it about 15k's at night so far and it seemed pretty good.
Here's hoping that I have made the right decision.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

No complaints about my jetta here.

Lucky though as the 07 model i got does not have a DPF, DSG or the injectors that have been known to fail.

Re: Am I the only Happy Jetta owner in OZ

It all depends which engine/ gearbox combo you own on. Just like in the Golf/ Passat the 103tdi is probably the most safest engine in terms of durability, the 6spd DSG is somewhat ok as well albeit mechatronics on some early models. The 147kw engine is also quite durable but the 118tsi (1.4tsi) is well known for being vw's problem child, and to make things worse its mated with the 7spd DSG which has been very unreliable and problematic. So if you own a Jetta 118tsi chances are you would have had an engine or gearbox related issue. The other problem which effected both the golf and jetta is the 2.0fsi (non-turbo) engine, it was mated with a 6spd conventional gearbox which was unreliable and often required a rebuild at 60k.

So to summarise, the 103tdi and 147kw are usually fairly safe purchases anything outside of that is by at your own risk.

my parents have a 2009 Jetta 118TSI with the 7sp DSG. they love it, especially the combination of fuel economy with power. we get roughly 7L/100km, much of it being city driving. there's probably a few small niggles that they haven't paid attention to, but on the whole it's serving us very well. definitely a bunch of happy jetta owners here.

I have an MY08 Jetta TDI diesel in a manual, love my car. For an extra couple of $$$ on top of the stock car I have the perfect package for all my needs. People pop up at work with a nice new car and I think, mine ticks 100% of the boxes I need and theirs doesnt for a lot cheaper price.
