I have done this twice actually at major servos on main intersections and get pretty close on other occaisions. I drive so much for work, sometimes I dont fill up till its way past the red yes i know this is bad...

I was just curious if the tank is actually 63L including the fuel lines or even more? I can tell how far past the red I can go now which is handy when I'm driving out in the country

i have a 2005 2.0tdi chipped. a good highway run will get 900ks. not as game as some to see how low the tank will go. running out of diesel is about as fun as putting your arm in a blender n:. if you dont learn the first time you can always go back a for a second. if you need any more goes, try your head!

I have a Golf 2L and just got the MAF replaced as the car was having issues. The car is running alot better now with more power etc but now i only get 450km to tank as opposed to 650km beforehand.

Very rich fuel smell noticeable now as well, particularly when sitting at lights etc.

I only use 98RON. I am mechanically pretty iliterate unfortunately but learning.

Suggestions from the gallery? Something simple as a tune up?

Anyone know a decent VW mechanic around Parramatta?

Edit: my car is a Mk4 so apologies for the invasion, just noticed this is a mk5 thread but hope still relevant.

          cheers

I took the GTI on a journey over the weekend and got 560km before I needed to fill up - could have gone a further 80km but when the next fuel is 130km away that's not an option.

Thanks everyone, this gives me a great "feel" for the useful range of the various models. It always comes down to how hard you drive it, but it's interesting to note a highway driven GTI can match a normal urban driven TSI GT. Obviously the opportunity to drink a lot more is there in the GTI, and heck, if I end up with one, I look forward to some spirited driving too!

Amazing the oil burners though, am ready to go visit a dealer and see what they are like. If I can live with the diesel, well it sure seems like a great option for what I want. I do however feel the "hoon" within will get ahold of the heart on driving the GTI, and I guess I'll end up with the TSI as a comprimise!

Thankyou to everyone for the input, this site and all of you have been fanstastic. I've learnt a LOT.

Believe me u can "hoon" a TDI as good as a petrol version.

As for fuel range, ive only done 1600km so far and ive gotten 600km from the first tank, 700 from the second and heading for 750ish on the 3rd, although i did accidentally put 1.3l of premium unleaded in on saturday. damn servo had a black handle on the petrol pump (ive been driving diesels in australia for over 2 years so it wasnt an, oops i forgot i had a diesel moment) but luckily its still driving, just a bit of extra lubrication.

the gt tdi is faster in gear than the gt tsi... its only that you have to shift to third to get to 100 in the tdi whereas you dont in the tsi, therefore the tsi edges it out in the 0-100 stats

with the mark 6 in 2010 is it? or is it out in 2009? i wouldnt bother waiting since you wont get any more power and it wont be a better car.

OK, OK, let me drive em...I don't want to start a war!

I've found a dealer with a TSI and a GTI in stock now, so I'll pay them a visit later this week.
