Logzy how will you get the Aussie maps to work? Or have you already got it working on a bench?

So how much did the complete setup cost by the time it landed in Australia for you?

And are you able to plug in an iPod into the RNS-510 or do you need an iPod connector. Because i have the standard RDS-300 with iPod connection...

    thanks for the info.

What happens with a non highline MFD?

      Surely there is a workaround?

        So Guy_H,

this is what you are saying for the unit:

        RNS-510 $3000

        Bluetooth + Maps + Fitting $1500

Hi-Line MFD ? (how much for this)

ouch... time to start saving (or to buy more scratchies)...

          Maps - Progressing.
Also as the unit becomes more popular maps will become more available.

Price - Total price landed including freight, bank charges for international payment and paypal charges for the receiver but paid by me for the RNS510, premium bluetooth with wiring harness and mic. - $2100. Yes that is $2100

As for warranty. I asked the seller of the 510 about this and he said if there is a problem he will change it over for me. I trust him as he has very good feedback and is good to deal with. Many international customers have purchased from him.

The price of $2100 is alot better than $4500
Even if, worst case scenario, i had to buy another 510 i would still be in front.

              Sorry,

We have not worked it all out, we have spent months on getting this all 100%so its bolt in, no hassle, no cutting the factory wiring loom etc etc so we can service the VW dealers that buy from us. It important to us that we don't impact on the VW warranty & can supply & service dealers with warranty items on the spot.

Our price will be about the same as VW's (3k for the unit) *with* a warranty that will cover the unit/s up to 3 years on a brand new car.

I don't think the bluetooth will be much chop without the big MFD - it will work with the RNS510 though, but the steering wheel controls are the ducks nuts.

To switch your MFD (Instrument cluster) - you can do this through the VW parts network (installation must be by the VW dealer as it contains the imobiliser & your mileage of course!)

Hi Mate, yes - it will be available separately as a spare part from VW - soon. No prices until it arrives.

Its good you have the highline MFD though - thats a bonus!

Do we need to wait for the maps?

How much is it cost for the maps?

Maps - you need to buy a BMW or Mercedes disc & modify the software to where it places it on the HDD on the unit - but VW should have the software available in the next couple of weeks. i understand the passats have just been unloaded off the boat with the same Nav units. The old DVD maps were ~ $700 from VW, the new ones should be similar.

$700 is such rip-off - do you get a few years worth of updates for that price?

Think I'll stick to the paper version - new one cost me $20.

                                RNS510 & Bluetooth install

OK. Here is the install guide for the bluetooth I mentioned previously in this thread along with more info on the RNS510.

                                RNS510 with premium bluetooth info.
This is a good read and shows the compatibility of the Skoda bluetooth module which as i previously posted you can get it for about AU$450 delivered.
It also has a link for the seller of the 510 that i purchased from and the RNS510 user manual.

                                Premium Bluetooth install.
This is a copy of the link that can be found in the above link.
