Fair enough.
I think the light dsg tune is adequate for me.
It does still sway on the side of economy though.
If I had my time again I'd put the DSG tune on first before adding paddles. Given that I changed both the steering wheel and airbag, the cost was almost as much as the DSG tune. However as the "D" mode shifting is sorted now, I don't use the paddles anywhere near as much as I used to.
In what way does a proper dsg tune change the parameters? Higher revs before changes I'm assuming?
DSG computer uses both accelerator input and road speed to work out what gear to be in.
The light DSG tune changes the data being sent from the engine's ECU to DSG mechatronics. So it can "trick" it to hold onto gears a bit longer.
The DSG tune actually changes the programming so that D mode is no longer so economical and will actually change up straight away when you put the boot in.
The other thing the DSG tune does is re-engages first gear. If you slow down it will drop back into first without having to come to a complete stop. So you can get going quickly without chugging in second.
I picked up this old thread because I'm planning to do a DSG tune on my 2007 3.2L V6 Passat. Those who've done a DSG tune make lots of favourable comments, so it seems worthwhile. Harding Performance is the plan. I'm also thinking of installing a R36 whee so the coding info is really useful. My interest in the R36 wheel is more for the thicker rim - the paddles is a bonus. Wish there was a VW wheel with a smaller diameter that would fit!
Never having had paddles before, I have a dumb question. If the gear shift is set to D, will the paddles work immediately if used or does the gear shift need to be flicked over to the left to the + and -? Thanks.

If memory serves me correct, it will automatically activate in 'D' - without the need to move the lever into the 'triptronic' state.
