  • Coding dsg paddles

Hey fellas, found a gti dsg steering wheel I'm going to put into the jetta.

I have not used vag com at all so am a bit apprehensive but does anyone have a guide / screenshots of what ill need to do to code the paddles to work? (Ill have a cable this weekend)

Ive Done heaps of searching but don't think I found what I needed to yet.

    Cheers.

Hi mate, you need to go into steering wheel/ column electrics and change the coding in there. Should give you a few options, ie, if its multi function buttons, 3 or 4 spoke wheel, and of course paddle shift... sorry no screen shots but it should be quite easy. As soon as its recoded in steering electrics then it will work mate....(cycle the ignition after) VDUB... (ps where did you get the wheel from?)

      Coding dsg paddles

Great. Ill give that a go when I get the cable. Sounds pretty simple.

I got the wheel off eBay for a decent price! (Asv wreckers in Melbourne I think) Also picked up a Bosch rcd510 for an unbelievable price!

      Cheers for the help.

Here's a screenshot on how to do it on a Mk6 Golf:

Scroll down to "Microphone Button on Steering Wheel" (same section in VCDS as DSG paddles). Not 100% sure if it's the same on the Mk5 but perhaps it helps.

Hopefully this will make it easier. I am doing the same thing but with a GLI wheel from the US. My coding will change from 0012021 to 0012121.

Yes, I've retrofitted a wheel with paddles. Coding is often the easiest part for most retrofits.

All above information is true and correct. Enjoy the wheel.

                Ps. Get a dsg tune!

^ Indeed - I always used the paddles because I hated D upshifting early and S hanging on way too long. Even fitted paddle extensions. And GTI pedals to complete the look.

Since getting the DSG tune I rarely use the paddles now since D shifts pretty much just the way I would in manual mode, and S is much more usable on the motorway (shifts to 7th at about 94kph but will quickly jump down a few cogs if I want to overtake).

                      Coding dsg paddles

I've already got the dsg tune that came with the viezu Motorsport tune (which is awesome!)

Also got some h and r sport springs on the way.
Ill post some pics up when I'm finished with it.

Almost bought a downpipe too. On a roll. Haha

                        Done..

That was one of the easiest mods ever. took me 30mins (taking my time) to take the wheel off, reinstall and code.
couldn't have done it without the coding info so thanks to all who helped!
airbag light was on when I turned the car on but went away as soon as I drove it..

When you get the springs fitted Id be interested to see a pic, my Jetta needs a chop down but dont want to ruin the ride for a daily drive and cant afford a coil over kit but the wheel gap I have is massive with the 18" factory charlston rims on......VDUB...

Likewise since getting a DSG tune, I now enjoy driving around in "D" and only use the paddles when I really feel like doing some more spirited driving or when I need to hold gear driving up/down hill.

Although an improvement over "stock", the Viezu "light" DSG tune doesn't really compare to a full DSG tune. There's a number of things like first gear re-engagement and the ability to kick down a number of gears given accelerator input that isn't achieved just by minor adjustment of shift points.
