Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Interesting Dealer Experience

Went down to my local dealer at lunch today and to my delight they had "new" R32 3 door DSG DBP! Hubba Hubba Hubba! The 08 wheels look so much better in the flesh!

This "new" vehicle with 124 kms on the clock. The test drive put 20 kms extra on and it's still considered a new vehicle!

Despite saying that there were no R32s in stock in Brisbane (which is probably true), they guy said that this one was an "extra" ordered by the dealership for demos.

Also how hard is it to research and know the product you are selling? I made a comment about how nice the seats were, the standard ones. And his reply was "These are the Recaros!" What the?

Anyway, if you're about to take delivery of a 3 Door DBP DSG at Austral VW, you're getting a very nice car!
    08 R32 5Dr DSG...AWESOME!

Seems like the word "dodgy" is almost redundant!

we don't want our new cars thrashed as demos, but none of us hold back when taking a test drive... it seems unfair that the dealerships demo sold cars, and not exec/dealer cars.

        hmm.

The dealer gave me three cars when I originally looked. A DSG R32, a manual, and a dSG GTI. All had roughly 10,000 kms and were dealer cars. Later, I drove a GT, but it too was a 3000 km dealer. I wouldn't have driven a new car hard, nor would I have accepted delivery of a car that had been so used.

I agree 110%, after seeing how the salesman drove the demo Jetta (thought my neck had been broken accelerating and then again as he stopped at the lights 100 metres from the showroom) before handing over to me. I decided then and there I wouldn't buy a demo, I think we have a reasonable expectation that our cars would not be treated in such a manner prior to delivery.

            Cheers

just for the record guys,again.... your "new" virginal car has been already thrashed by every truck driver, dockie and pre-delivery guy since it left the production line in germany/south africa.dont think for one minute any one of them drove it below 2000rpm.(and its been bench tested/broken in at the factory)

anyway, its better than the car being baby'd! wheres that bedding rings in link??

mate of mine has a 1 series beemer that he has never thrashed and he got a 1 series loaner from the dealer, exact same as his and the loaner reved much free'er than his,I told him but no one ever listens !!!!

thats it,posted heaps of times here.... but this question is always being asked....would be nice if a mk5 mod added it somewhere for new car buyers to have handy.

this theory is true.I have personally done it and it really opens the motor up.

While I've never bought a new car I have bought a brand new engine from Germany. Got told not to labour the engine ie drive round town in top gear. Let it rev a bit

Perhaps, but I saw my car as it came of the delivery truck, so I know what the odo read then and when delivered.
