One minor stuff up by the dealership, I asked for Euro plates and they gave me the small white ones...so I now have to go and swap them over! But other than that all good.

I already love this car...it feels so good to drive, so solid, I can't believe it's a 'hatchback'! The steering feels so sure, and the power is steady and strong. I already love the auto lights, and auto windscreen wipers.

The ride was a little stiffer than I expected, driving it home along Parramatta Rd, you certainly notice the bumps...but it's not so hard that it annoys.

The little things I didn't know about are cool...the bottle opener, that placed sideways makes the tray a cup holder, the holding down of the open key to open all windows at once on a hot day, and the hooks in the boot for shopping etc...

I drove it so gingerly on the way home...and will no doubt do so for a little while...but can't wait to take it for a decent drive...

Anyway...I can now say I'm a Golf GTI Owner!

    Hehehe well done! thats awesome

Have you washed it yet? (kidding)

I gave the dealership plates (prepurchased from Vicroads down here) so hopefully they remember!

I ordered black Euro plates as well GTI_SYD, so given our cars came from the same dealer, I hope they didn't forget to put them on my car as well.

Good luck to everyone else picking up their cars over the next few days. I've been waiting so long - finally glad today has arrived
ECR - Good luck picking up the car...can you do me a favour...let me know if they give you a little hamper (with some coffee, bickies, wine etc). Only I have a feeling they give this to all customers, and yet they tried to pass this off as an apology for the mix up... I actually saw someone picking up their Tourag and I'm sure they had the same hamper with them, so unless they make a lot of mistakes...

Just a quick one. My car was unloaded on 20th December 2007 and I am getting my car on Saturday from the stealer. Was supposed to be today but they needed one more day.

Ie. my car wasn't on the Jan 7 Shipment.

Hope this helps. I TOTALLY understand your frustration.
when I checked my VIN on that tracking web site, it said it arrived in Port Kembla on 16th Dec...so I think if your car (FUN510) arrived in Jan, you prob won't be able to pick up for a couple of weeks.

I was pleased to note when I checked the compliance, despite obviously being built in 2007, it was complianced as at Jan `08....Cool!

I pick up my Silver 5 door manual PDC, BT tomorrow morning.

I should have a good drive from Melbourne and am really looking forward to it except the 5am start.

                  Congrats on the new car

You probably already know this but try to vary the RPM's as often as you can on the drive up to Canberra. Vary the gear you are in as often as you can/is practical. I'm no mechanic but am passing on information that was given me.

Funny how the sales guy I spoke to didn't tell me to do this..or even just to take it easy for the first X kms... Not that I would thrash it at this stage anyway....

Dont be afraid to rev it out - Will bed the piston rings in properly - Just make sure nice and warm before you do it.

And yeah, don't sit at constant RPM, the rings will not bed in properly and it will make less power for its entire life (And not last as long)

Alot of places suggest you get the oil changed at 1000km as well, to remove damaging metal filings left in the engine from its build.

                      - Dave

that dave says is correct but avoid redlining it in the first 1000km's or so; hard acceleration is good though! try not to run into the car in front in that rocket of yours

Thanks for all the suggestions and Thanks for the compliance info GTI Syd. Good news on the Jan 08 Compliance to!

I busted some salesmens balls and I finallly got some sensible answers on my car. Yes it was unloaded on Jan 7 (like many others arriving) but it was unloaded in MELBOURNE not Port Kembla!

I have physically seen all the data and got my chassis details, so no risk of the car going to someone else without me knowing about.

How is this for a Quote from the salesman "It is illegal for me to give you your chassis and Vin numbers until the car is in our yard" - I would beleive against this individual yards policy but illegal COME ON!!!

Anyhow, It is still around two weeks off as it has only just gone into Autocare Melbourne today. I am in Newcastle.

I think You guys will have worn yours out before I get my car
Hope the other pickups accross the weekend go well - ENJOY!
