Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Major problem turned out to be......

I'm at the beach. I get into my Golf Mk5 and try to insert the key into the ignition. It won't go in. I call RACQ. He tells me to get a locksmith. The locksmith gets the key into the ignition but then the gears can't be selected. Call RACQ again. He resets the computer. Doesn't work. I'm stuck. I get a tow truck. It gets dark. I get towed to VW workshop. Next evening the tech rings me and tells me it was all caused by a blown 10Amp fuse!. AAAAH......Anyway hope this helps someone.

How did a blown fuse stop the key getting in the ignition?
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

Sounds like he has a DSG. Maybe the Steering and Gear lock out is electronic plunger rather than mechanical. No power and your stuck.
