Stuff waiting for your next service - if you push hard, a new MFD can be sourced from Sydney within 3 days, or from Singapore within 1-2 weeks. As for the stacker, I'm not quite sure. I agree with Thomas, as my research has shown that you can have the stacker or the iPod, but not usually both. See what they have to say, but PUSH them, or show them an unhappy face. If all else fails, come to Glen Waverley, ask for Kieran, say Burt (Red GTI satnav) sent you, and tell him you've got a similar MFD problem to what he had, and he was so happy with how he handled it, he's sending you there to fix the problem! Not only does a kick up the backside work, so too does a bit of kissing up after the event. Good luck!

      Thanks for the heads up

I said that I had heard it has happened to a few ppl and the guy was like..."no, never!"

I go to Glen Waverly all the time (visit gf) so i'll pop in there tomorrow and speak to Kieran.

i think it should be pretty simple to install a dvd player in your glove box or wherever you choose (might just need a couple of plug converters or whatever). theoretically you could also have a switch with multiple inputs if you wanted to have more than one video or audio input (and mount it in the empty buttons next to the esp button?) all depends how keen and savvy you are i guess!

my tip regarding the full sized mfd - make demands not requests, tell dont ask vw aftersales service is a POS and you have to deal with it accordingly. they'll smile at you while saying **** you.

I seem to remember that the iPod kit wasn't an installable option with sat-nav.. You could have one or the other. Without sat-nav you should be able to toggle between either the iPod or the 6 stacker by pushing the CD button.

I understand that when sat-nav is installed you get a separate stacker in the centre console rather than in the head unit. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

I would really love someone to confirm this so I have some firm knowledge to take to the dealer.

It was ordered with Sat-nav and ipod adapter (both written on the invoice)

What should my car have come with exactly?

hey Deej, whilst shopping for my Jetta, I was told that there were two types of head units for the Sat/Nav. One used a CD and could not play CDs whilst the navigation was being used (as Nav CD could not be inserted). This unit usually comes fitted with the iPOD adaptor.

The other head unit is DVD based (little quicker) and usually comes fitted with the CD changer. When I questioned if I could have an iPOD dock connected as well, I was told that it was the dock or the changer not both.

Since the new cars now come standard with the full size MFD.....I did not question how the MFD varied with the fitting of the Sat/Nav...

I will drop into the dealership tomorrow for you and ask my sales guy.....I'll let you know what he says.

              Cheers
              T

I'd really appreciate that. My sat nav is CD based and I load it into the dash if that helps. Build date is 11/06

Hey Deej, couldn't go into my dealership to get that info for you. I did however find a thread here which talks about full size MFD with original VW SatNav...have a look ..... http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...&highlight=mfd

I went to Glen Waverly and spoke to Kieren who said I have to go back to the Camberwell dealership where it was purchased.

I then went to the Camberwell Dealership yesterday to get it sorted. The saleslady (Sophie) who sold the car originally said flat out that Golf's never came with the MFD before 2008 so I simply said that they did. She said no they didn't but would get back to me...

She said the sat nav was installed at the dealership because the Ipod dock was chosen over the CD stacker. I have no idea what the relevance of that is but again said that I should still have the large MFD. I also dont have a shark fin aerial which she again said I shouldn't have.

I said firmly that I should have all these things and she said she would get back to me...doubtful! I will call again tomorrow and follow this up.

The ipod adapter was chosen not when ordering but a little later when the car was paid for (3 months before delivery). She is saying this is why the sat nav was installed in the dealership and thus the small MFD. I would have thought this is incidental and nothing would be affected anyway as it was 3 months before delivery!

I understand now you can't have both Ipod and Cd changer (The fact that they didn't build two Aux inputs is ridiculous but for another thread!). I don't understand why the Ipod installation means the sat nav had to be done at the dealership and that means I couldn't get the large MFD or shark fin (I wanted the sharkfin as I was told it would allow me to get a TV tuner installed easily).

I was certain large MFD's came with all GTI's that had sat nav ordered with it. Is this true?

                    ANY HELP APPRECIATED!!!

idea - call/email vw australia, tell them you just bought a brand new old stock gti and explain your situation. basically just pretend that that car has been sitting in a yard for a year or two and you're the first owner and ask them what it should have

I took delivery of my GTI in June 2006. It was ordered in November 2005 with the optional OEM SatNav.

It has the factory fitted SatNav, and the full sized MFD, and the 6 CD centre console mounted stacker, and the sharkfin aerial.

it makes sense if the purchaser wanted an ipod adapter that they fitted the satnav at the dealer. If they had have had it fitted from the factory it would have had the stacker and no free input for the adapter.

have u tried contacting the original owner of the car about the issue? maybe they can fill some blanks for u?

yeah I spoke to the orginal owner and he told me about the ipod request at the time of payment. He is a really nice guy and is willing to come to the dealer with me tomorrow to sort it out

Hopefully things should start sorting out

good luck sounds like you really should have the MFD with factory fit, perhaps the dealer put an after market one in? IF no luck with the dealer I would go to VW Aus.
