  • How easy is it to sell a MKV Jetta with over 100,000kms?

Hi all my Jetta has just ticked over 104K...
I'm thinking of selling, but I would do so at a loss as my amount owing is greater than market price...

But I'm also looking around and seems these days it's hard to find the perfect used car...
If I happen to stumble across the car I want ( Skoda octy RS wagon in manual diesel) I'm going to snap it up... If I can sell the Jetta with ease.. Don't want to be stuck with 2 cars..

I know it comes down to price when selling.. But I'd want to get market price and not drop my pants out of desperation..
mines a 2006 MY07 TDI manual with leather, sunroof, nav, bluefin remap, FSH and remaining dealer warranty till 2015..I consider it to be a better example... But boy MKV Jettas have taken a slugging on used car prices!
Are they in demand at all or is the market slow with MKV Jettas given mk6 are so cheap new....

I'm looking at buying a Jetta this year and my criteria is either below 80k or just ticked over 105k purely to avoid the timing belt service cost. I wouldn't be put off by a 104k diesel manual at all, to be honest that's pretty much what I'm after! What colour is it?

Anthony - if it weren't for need of more space for baby I would
I'm getting great perf and economy seems to get even better the more I drive it.

            More space for baby ?????????????????
Haven't you ever opened your boot.
My brother has both a baby and a Jetta
Black 2.0 Turbo dsg grey leather 90k paid $10.5 k for it 3 months ago.
Replaces a XC90 (highly overated ) originally bought for baby but just overkill.

Big bonus for you is that its a diesel plus you have all the extra options like Leather, sunroof and sat nav. That kind of mileage is nothing for an oiler and the Diesels seem to be much more in demand but to be honest its the soccer moms buying them and they mostly want DSG not manual. Have you done the timing belt on i? Would be another bonus.
My suggestion is check out similar models with similar specs on carsales to get an idea of price - post an ad up for similar money and see how it goes - if you drop the price to the cheapest in Australia it will sell but all depends on whether you want to go that low. Carsales ads don't expire so just put one up and see how it goes.
Can't image that a Skoda would have more room inside for passengers so not sure if the change will be better for a baby? I got a baby myself in an mk5 Golf hatch and I get away with it fine.
The only thing you gain would be the huge boot room from the wagon but then again the Jetta boot was never tiny to begin with, certainly a lot bigger than my hatch.

I wonder how the market will go when the MK7 hits Australia - obviously the Jetta will still be a while off, but then the MK5 is 2 shapes old...it'd make it how a Bora is now.

True.. The Jetta has a huge boot for a sedan... But it's not as usable as an SUV, wagon or hatch methinks... Also I'm the sort that uses the boot as storage rather than carrying space
I think the Octavia is a bit wider than the MKV body which would be nice too as the baby seat takes up 1.3 spaces..

Other than that the Jetta is still fantastic

I guess I'm just abut concerned about the resale value and time on market of MKV Jettas..
Seems the Boras held values better and MkV Golfs are much more popular...

If you're worried about re-sale value then don't sell it. Its a good car and if you like it then keep it. I don't think the jump to the Skoda is substantial enough to justify. Trust me as the baby gets older the need to pack lots of things decreases ( ie large prams suddenly become compact prams ) so you will find the Jetta is more than roomy enough in the near future. My wife made the same decision as you to sell her Honda Civic sedan because she thought it was too small and made the jump to a 4wd wagon - yeah it made the first few months easier because of the extra room but now its serious overkill and in hindsight we sold a very good car and lost a lot of money selling it. I say stick it out with the Jetta.

Boras had all wheel drive and V6, nothing a Jetta can compete with.
With changes to P plate laws the Bora is one of the best performance cars for an 18 year old.

I bought a Jetta as baby number 2 was on the way, born this week actually. The Golf was way to small.
Many SUVs have small boots: Tiguan, Yetti, CX5, Dualis all too small. Forester was a decent size, seat anchors were an issue and it was the most boring car to drive and fuel consumption a joke.

Honda CRV or Passat wagon were the other contenders.
The Jetta won for us mainly due to price. $16K for an 06 Auto FSI with 40,000km.
                        MK4 GTI - Sold
                        MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold

My Brother bought his Jetta 2 months ago, details:

                          2006 2.0t (petrol turbo)
                          101k
                          Dsg
                          Leather
                          Sunroof
                          Bluetooth
                          18" vw Charlestons
                          Gunmetal grey/ blue

Paid $11950 from trivetts in blacktown

It's negligible on which is more desirable on the used car market, the petrol turbo or diesel turbo but I would say your car would be worth similar money.

Ha Ha Ha, so true. I recently came back from Europe where down there the Skoda is seen as the poor mans car's, same as Fiats. The locals say these are cheap pieces of s$*t and were amazed that us Aussies consider them to be premium vehicles and pay premium prices for them.
