Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Radio changes station automatically

    Hi there, I have a 2005 2.0 FSi Sportline.
Lately the standard radio automatically adjusts the radio setting up by .1. E.g if it's set on 96.9 FM it plays fine for a few minutes then loses clarity because it tunes itself to 97.0. Same when on 104.1 FM plays fine for a few mins then automatically moves up .1 to 104.2 Has anyone else had the same issue or know how to stop it. It gets very annoying when having to reset the station every 2 mins.
    Thanks for your input.
P.S Its the standard unit, i think its called a 310 model, no Sat Nav.

Are these set in favorites or just manually tuned and not set.

Some radios drift a bit but usually stay if set with the hold function that makes them appear in the screen

You have not accidently pressed the TP button have you?

TP is like a Traffic Program to look for stations reporting on traffic conditions - so if pressed it will scan through stations.

I don't believe so. It doesn't scan through stations it only goes up by 0.1 from 96.9 to 97.0 or 104.1 to 104.2 rather than scanning through all stations on the bandwidth.

My RNS510 will change itself to a different 'favorite' station quite often when i start the car. Maybe change your 'favorite' stations and see what happens.

Maybe it just doesnt like your choice of music and stations...so it tries to change all by itself!

Maybe the knob to change the station is a little loose? When you hit a bump, it turns slightly/just enough to change the station by that little bit?

Never heard of it happening, just a suggestion?

This has been happening to me as well....
It's very random, and it seems to change to Triple M or Gold FM shortly after starting the car, (maybe 400m down the road).

As you can see in this pic, I have turned on my car whilst on 107.5, driven 400m or so, Triple J is selected (107.5), yet its changed to Triple M, even though 107.5 is still selected (white).

                    Any ideas

Mine occasionally does this too. Just wondering if it has something to do with the TP broadcast on the stations it switches to. Even though it is not ticked as active, it only seems to go to the channels with the TP broadcast.

This could be happening if the RDS is set on. Here, the radio can automatically look for another frequency for a station with the same name. If it cannot, it may default to the first programmed station.

If you turn the RDS feature off, then you will lose the station name, but it should disable the automatic frequency search.
