  • Brakes....WTB stopping power

Woot! Picked up the Dub today United Grey R32.

Great guys and service from Barloworld in Glen Waverley.

Just one question for anyone that may have an idea. The brakes feel pretty stiff, as in if you have the car off and have pumped them a few times, while driving. I virtually have to stomp on them to gain any retardation of speed and at the moment if I needed to stop abruptly I will possibly not be able to.

Could this be due to them being new, as in 40kms, and require bedding down? Or should I be concerned that the car won't stop?

Congrats Pharkus, you would be pretty stoked right now?

I picked up my R32 last tuesday, and did not really notice anything like what you have described. I only noticed that the brakes pull up fairly well and can bite at low speed. Maybe should get it checked out.....but that means givin' it back..noooooooo!!

my GTIs brakes are the opposite. To the point where i think theyre too sensitive! They have about an inch of free movement and then u hit the spot which sends you thru the windscreen!

but yeah. define pretty stiff. U shouldnt have to pump anything or exert too much force?

Congrats on the new car Pharkus I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely.

It sounds like the pedal has a really dead feel to it and I have not experienced that at all with my Jetta. The brakes have always been very responsive to the pedal from the very first day I've owned it. I'd be taking it to be checked out asap.

        Cheers

Ditto, brakes in my GTI are superb - powerful and full of feel - not at all wooden. Back to the dealer for you, I'd say

Thanks guys for the comments and feedback. Definitely feels as though the pedal is "dead". It requires quite a bit of effort to get it to actually start to retard speed. Bit of a concern but, as I will be working until late tonight, I will try in the safety of an empty road to see if it improves or not.

Other than that, totally over the moon with the car.

How good is the throttle blip when the auto downshifts!

Ummm.... I wouldn't know... but would imagine it to be pretty awesome in the GTI that I drove. I opted for manual

Nice set of Alcon's will fix your brakes!

Just did a MKV (regular track junkie in Sydney) with a set of Alcons!

Lawls, thanks for the suggestion. Even my limited understanding of braking would conclude that maybe brembos would have been a better suggestion?

I think that I was considering those wheels at some stage, however I do believe that I may run into a few ADR issues over total width of wheel on the new car.

Suffice to say these are the only mods that will be done to my car:

                    Tinting
                    Sunroof
Rearbadge delete (savings seconds on weight loss)

I've explored the possibility of all the other mods, but at the end of the day I paid the extra for an R32 so that I wouldn't need to do anything more to it.

I love the look of modded cars, but at this stage stock is the only option for us. Still look forward to seeing piccies of what others have done to theirs =)

You will need to bed your brakes in correctly, otherwise you will have bad pedal feel and poor braking effect.

I've gone and read up on bedding down of the brakes and will do so once they are fixed up. Also back to the dealer for another fault code that has just lit up tonight.

Basically, at idle the engine is revving up to about just over 1k rpms over and over. Hopefully be fixed with the brake problem with out having any adverse effect to the car.

car might have a vacuum leak which could explain the lack of breaks

                              Howdi Pharkus,

                              Congrats on the new car.

I was going to get mine through Barloworld. They told me they had an R32 demo on the lot for me to test drive. When I got there, they told me that they only had the GTI for demo and that its "pretty much the same".........

Getting mine through Essendon Volkswagen instead. (Leasing company arranged it)

Any pics of your new car?

Can't wait for my delivery date to arrive!
