Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • AUX input in 2008 Jetta - please help.

I know this question has been asked 100 million times before but i cant seem to find a clear explanation . I have a 2008 Jetta with a RCD300 head unit. It has a spot in the centre console which is blocked off where the AUX input could be put. I went to the VW spare parts place and the man there told me that it could possibly be hooked up given that in 2008 it was a factory option. He sold me the AUX input plug which sits in the centre console for $25 but said he couldn't guarantee there would be a cable in the loom that would connect to the input.

Anyway i went home and pulled off the centre console but as far as i could see there wasn't a wire that would connect to the input. The blocked off hole in the centre console however was a perfect fit for the AUX input so i assume, somehow, it is possible to hook it up.

I'm Just wondering if anyone can give me the direction to enable me to connect up this AUX input up to my head unit.

I suspect that perhaps it is only the RCD310 head unit that will allow an AUX connection - hopefully i am wrong.

    Thanks for reading

    Platzie.

It seemed to be very hit and miss which models had them fitted and which didn't, it seems they order 4000 Aux inputs for 5000 cars and just scattered them randomly hahahaha.

I don't believe the wiring is in place as it was an option that required a cable to be run and was separate from the main loom. Regardless, here's a DIY: VWVortex.com - AUX adapter install on 6-disc in-dash w/sat radio

edit: just noticed the pics aren't working...

If the cable is separate from the main loom then i should be able to get the cable which plugs in to the back of the RCD300? Shouldn't i? It seems there are many different ways to do this, it's a shame the pictures in that thread aren't working. I just assumed that because it was a factory option available for the car and that there is a spot in the centre console for the AUX input that it would be a simple plug and play with the necessary cable.

Correct, there is a cable available from the dealer which has a square plug that connects to the back of the head unit and a 3.5mm jack on the other end.

Oh really? You wouldn't happen to have any more information about this part would you?

No sorry, I don't. I just recalled some previous info from VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com - Powered by vBulletin and did a search using AUX INPUT. Plenty of info on there and maybe someone has the part numbers listed.

If anyone else on here has added an AUX input into their RCD300 can you please inform me of how to do so?

I fitted an aftermarket 3.5mm jack from 'connects2': Connects 2,Car Audio integration specialists

You just plug into into the back of the rcd300 where the cd stacker plug would usually go. Total cost was $50 and an hours work.

I've given up on the RCD300, it's annoying me. I can pick up a RCD310 pretty cheap, would it be worthwhile getting? Is it a standard plug and play into my 2008 Jetta/will it have aux capabilities?

If i get the RCD310 i can attach this into it...

To my knowledge there isn't anything like this available for the RCD300.

There's one here for the 300: Aux In Kit For RCD 300 And 500 | eBay

Or this, which takes usb, sd card or 3.5 mm line in: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-SD-SD...ht_2060wt_1149

I've seen plenty of others out there.
