  • American Recall info?

I had an enquiry this week asking about the validity of this document and if anyone knows if (or why not) this sort of thing is/has happened in Australia? Not being a Mk5 expert I'm throwing it out to you guys!

Does anyone have any information they could add?

I have heard VW giving out extended DSG warranties in China and USA, not sure if/when that'll take effect here. Maybe we don't complain enough to VWA

This is where you can have your say on anything that doesn't fit in the other sections. Remember we are a public forum and the same rules of propriety hold! No bad language, incitement of hatred or antisocial posts, please. They will be edited or deleted mercilessly!

Disregard until Volkswagen Group Australia releases something along the same lines.

As with all campaigns, (or "Recalls" as the conspiracy theorists call them) anything that doesn't have Volkswagen Group Australia's letterhead on it, doesn't apply to vehicles sold here.

It's a service campaign - distinctly different to a recall! I believe it is a valid document.

I suspect these dsg issues were just as prevalent in Australia, however the negative publicity surrounding the issue could have been potentially crippling to VW USA as they'd recently re-entered that market.

I think it would be very interesting to try and argue this with Volkswagen Aus and worse case scenario even in the courts. Anyone got some spare cash to spend finding out?

It's an act of goodwill, issued by Volkswagen of the USA.

I don't thinkVolkswagen Group Australia would have a case to answer in this instance, to be honest.

              ^ what he said.

We are different markets, different driving conditions and quite often different parts (slightly). They also have different legislation around this type of thing which is what the courts look at, good will is irrelevant in court.

Good will may be irrelavent in court, but precedence is not.
These are the same parts, manufactured in the same facilities, by the same corporation.
The fact that we expect little to no support from VW Aus in the way of after sales support (or as you refer to it, good will) doesn't change that.
If someone was to have the inclination to pursue this then it would certainly be helpful

US sales, demand for VW cars must be down or they must be getting bad reports in medias. Just my thoughts.

I know it's a different gearbox but I used this as evidence against the DSG transmission which was in my old TDI Polo when I was trying to get VWA to do something about my car so I could drive it without it breaking down all the time. They just dismissed it saying that the problem only occurs in the USA. :/

I think it has more to do with the fact the consumer watchdogs here, such as the ACCC are a pushover. The USA and UK have FAR tougher government departments, thus recalls happen. If you don't comply in the USA, you can very much be booted from the market!

And I'm not just ragging on VWA, there are numerous recalls across various major marques that just don't happen here despite the same cars / problems occuring. BMW HPFP anyone?
