Hi all,
My 2006 Golf 2.0TDI is visiting VW next week for investigation of a hooting sound on take off. They believe the throw out bearing will need replacement but won't be sure until they open it up.
I've been doing a bit of reading about this sound and it appears that the throw out bearing is the cause. But I have also noticed a raspy rattle on idle when cold that sounds like youtube videos of a worn/failing dual mass flywheel so I suspect this may need replacing as well when they take it apart.
My car is about to run out of its extended warranty in July. It has done just over 90 000km.
1. What do you think my chances are of VW doing this all under extended warranty? Do you think I would be able to get them to pay for at least some of the work?
2. What would be a reasonable price for this work? VW has quoted me $900 for the throwout bearing alone with an extra $1400 for the flywheel and $550 for a new clutch (just in case also needs to be replaced).
I realise that these prices are obviously going to be more than from a local euro specialist and I'm annoyed because if this isn't covered by warranty then I'll sort of forced to pay VW to do the work as they will already have taken everything apart.
Anyone got any opinions/experiences? The dealership is Norris VW in Brisbane
