  • Torque mount bushes comparison

    So there is some conjecture over the different torque bushes out there on the market, here is an unbiased opinion of the 2 that I have tried in my TDI, the APR and Neuspeed models.

    Removal:

    Most people will not have to do this, but in short they are both a pain to remove without a hoist. The APR version is easier to remove as it is a little more squat, I damaged the Neuspeed one on removal as I was cramped for space and there are some tim areas.

    Again these are designed to be inserted, not removed!

    Components:

    Both have all components and instructions provided.

    The APR version is squat an has more contact area over the lesser distance that it is inserted against the original mounting that we are inserting into.

    The Neuspeed penetrates deeper into the original mount, but the 2 little prongs are a bit flimsy and I am assuming move inside the original mount.

    Red = Neuspeed
    Blue = APR

    Installation :

    Same.

    Results: Test car, 2.0 TDI Sportline

    First the Neuspeed. I found that this insert removed the most tramping, however was responsible for increased vibration. The insert also increased the sensation of turn in and braking seemed more immediate.

    Second the APR which was in my opinion for the TDI, a better suit. All around softer, having less vibration and shudder at lower revs - however, was not providing as good sensation when driving as the Neuspeed.

    Summary:

    I think that the TDI has too much vibration for the Neuspeed in the everyday use. I think that it would be better in a petrol engine that is smoother. I feel that the APR is a good option for TDI and people reluctant to spend weekends rattle finding!

    Thanks to Ian @ Rennenhaus for the opportunity to test both items.

    interesting.
    This is possibly going to be one of the first mods i do that will make a difference to the driveability of my GTI.
    To be honest im a little bit disappointed in the stock setup.

    Is there any real difference in the price of the two items?

            Never was any conjecture here, and it pays to support the local markets otherwise we will have less suppliers in Oz. Warantees can be performed too.

                Took the car out for a good drive with the APR insert today and feel that this is a significantly lower performance modification than the neuspeed one which was providing far more rigidity and directness.

                That being as it is, it is producing far less vibration.

                  how long did you have the neuspeed one in for? I know the VF mounts on my mk3 took a little bit to settle.

                    I have now removed the APR insert and feel that this is not an appropriate modification to the MKV TDI.

                    I am also an expert at installation and removal of these components!

                    A VW tech drove the car today and with me said, gee, I think that we need to get you in to look at a possible warranty on your fly wheel or engine mount. Asking why he said that the level of vibration was far too much and was either the dual mass flywheel faulty or a broken engine mount.

                    Since removing the mount, I feel that this is the best decision for me in my circumstances and will instead buy a short shifter.

                    Thanks for listening.

                      neuspeed = 3 weeks
                      APR = 9 days
                      Stock = from now on!

                        does this mean u have superfluous mounts kicking about?
