Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Forge TWINTAKE

I've just received my Forge TWINTAKE system from ECS tuning along with an R8 oil cap (old one needed to be replaced). I went through the box and the instructions just to be prepared for the weekend. There's something that came with it which has no mention in the instructions. It looks like a blanking plate for somethings. Comes with 2 5mm Allen machine screws, Forge blanking plate and a small O ring. I've attached an image below. Any idea's what it's for?

At a guess - blanking plate for the sensor on the MKVI's that have the sensor in a different location.

I figured it might be for the old MAF sensor location as they ask you to place it in the new MAF socket on the new intake pipe.

I believe its a blanking plate for the Pirelli engine / Golf R engine which has a divertor valve return pipe between the MAF sensor and the turbo inlet.

Its not used on the Mk5 GTi version of the engine, so you use the blanking plate if your intake pipe has a hole in it.

My experience with the Forge Twintakes (seen 2x brand new kits) is that they seem to come with parts that are not needed (or perhaps only needed in certain countries).

Indeed it is. It's to blank off a port on the main pipe at the rear that connects the turbo inlet to the rest of the intake system.

You can see it in the image below.

Install wasn't too bad. Just needs a little tidying up.

Install looks good, any comments regarding the intake? Are you tuned or stock? Sound? I'm thinking of just a regular wintake at the moment

Install is fairly easy. Just the flexible couple at the back can be difficult to get off. Just don't tighten all the hose clamps before you get the positioning correct. Additionally, plan where all the tightening bolts is going to be for easy access and tightening. Best use a 8mm socket bit for tightening them.

And one more thing. The stalks that hold the rubber grommets for the engine cover. You're better off using a ring spanner or ratcheted ring spanner or a deep 24mm socket bit. They ones I had weren't deep enough.

Noise wise. You don't hear much at low RPM's (>2500) but once the turbo spools you'll hear it sucking. It's kind of like Darth Vader inhaling in your car.

I have a question. I'm about to to the K04 turbo upgrade and I have a Forge Twintake . Seeing as though there is an opening with that blocking plate you mentioned, it would seem as though it is there for the dv relocation. Is there a port adapter available to suit that opening so that the dv relocation is possible with this intake? It would seem like a waste of time to include it if this isn't the case!

                  Maybe this will help?
