Hi all,
I found this forum not long ago, enjoyed lurking and thought I'd introduce myself in a rather long-winded way...
I'm an early-40's family guy who's been driving Subaru Outbacks for the past 8 years. My oldest son just moved out, we're down to four and I decided to downsize the family car. Both in engine and physical size. Spent a lot of time on that project, looked at Foresters and Imprezas (naturally), also other small-medium sized ones, even considered a Prius for a while...
Over the past ten or so years I occasionally glanced at Golfs (I did my license way back when in Germany on a Golf - like almost everybody), but they always seemed unexciting, and a bit under-powered. Now, I'm not after a performance car, the return of investment is far too low on those (I'm not 20 anymore and get laid more often than I ask for
), and cars like a WRX were simply not for me (and neither were Golf GTi's).
On the other hand, being an engineer, I always wanted a special, exciting car. That's how I got onto Subarus in the first place. Everything about them is special. If you discount the latest Impreza... (window frames on a Subie - what were they thinking?)
Anyway, by chance my browser steered towards the VW site, and there was that TSI. Ears (eyes) perked instantly. It seemed like a perfect cross of small engine and fun to drive car. The more I read about it the more I liked it. Then I sampled one, and that was it.
Against the protest of my wife ("too small!") I ordered a GT Sport TSI, and will hopefully take delivery mid-November. To my surprise it works out cheaper per month than the Outback I'm driving now, not taking into account the lower fuel consumption.
Anyway, I don't have to describe the agony of new car anticipation to you, let's say I can't wait
That's it for now, I've gleaned a lot from these forums already, and look forward to lots of good advice and discussion.
Cheers
Steffen.
