    Hi all,
I found this forum not long ago, enjoyed lurking and thought I'd introduce myself in a rather long-winded way...

I'm an early-40's family guy who's been driving Subaru Outbacks for the past 8 years. My oldest son just moved out, we're down to four and I decided to downsize the family car. Both in engine and physical size. Spent a lot of time on that project, looked at Foresters and Imprezas (naturally), also other small-medium sized ones, even considered a Prius for a while...

Over the past ten or so years I occasionally glanced at Golfs (I did my license way back when in Germany on a Golf - like almost everybody), but they always seemed unexciting, and a bit under-powered. Now, I'm not after a performance car, the return of investment is far too low on those (I'm not 20 anymore and get laid more often than I ask for ), and cars like a WRX were simply not for me (and neither were Golf GTi's).

On the other hand, being an engineer, I always wanted a special, exciting car. That's how I got onto Subarus in the first place. Everything about them is special. If you discount the latest Impreza... (window frames on a Subie - what were they thinking?)

Anyway, by chance my browser steered towards the VW site, and there was that TSI. Ears (eyes) perked instantly. It seemed like a perfect cross of small engine and fun to drive car. The more I read about it the more I liked it. Then I sampled one, and that was it.

Against the protest of my wife ("too small!") I ordered a GT Sport TSI, and will hopefully take delivery mid-November. To my surprise it works out cheaper per month than the Outback I'm driving now, not taking into account the lower fuel consumption.

Anyway, I don't have to describe the agony of new car anticipation to you, let's say I can't wait

That's it for now, I've gleaned a lot from these forums already, and look forward to lots of good advice and discussion.

    Cheers
    Steffen.

So your not gay? Im confused

Nah congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum. I'd bet u money that once your wife gets a ride (if she gets to drive), she will turn around and love it. Did you end up getting DSG or not? Mid november isnt too bad of a wait compared what some of the others had to wait! Try a few months to be precise

I don't think all Golf drivers are necessarily gay? At least that's what I've been told...

Seriously, the Prius is an amazing piece of engineering, but it drives and looks like a women's car. And it's too expensive.

      That's what I'm banking on.

      I did.

I did compromise on a number of things to get it that early: paint, interior colour, satnav - otherwise I would have waited till mid-Jan...

      Cheers
      Steffen.

Welcome and congratulations on your purchase!

Well dotnet, you're probably an ideal profile for the TSI.
You're also going to love it, no question about it.
I take it you had a test drive?
Did you drive it back to back with anything else?

So once you take delivery, wash it really well and post us some nice pics!

            Welome, and good choice.

I too have owned Subarus, (for the past ten years in my case) but took a look at the GTI as I'd driven VWs in my youth.

One drive in the GTI and I was hooked. The mixture of refinement, efficiency and fun leaves my Liberty(s) for dead. I still have the Subaru, but hardly ever drive it now....

woo congrats another gt sport coming. and you know the best thing about it, your kids wont be able to use it if they're on their Ps (if they're not past that age yet).

i drove the tsi before ordering my gt sport tdi and i was amazed at how nice it is, you (and your wife) are going to love it. make her sit in the back and eat her words about it being a small car because its really quite spacious.

              and welcome to the forum!

Steffen. Welcome to VWW. Congrats on your new order, surely you will never look back. Like myself.

Always like the good sized, praticality and sporty feature of subaru, until my mother recently bought a 02 forester. To my suprice, I was disapointed!

You being an engineer, I am sure you will know more and have deeper appreciation to german engineering.

Glad you converted for what ever reasons. Enjoy and have fun. Don't worry about wifey, she will understand when she steers the car.

                    Hi Steffen,

Welcome to the forum, it is a very friendly place and the collective knowledge and willingness to share is awesome.

For certain you will love your dub when you take delivery, sounds like you are one who would appreciate the finer points of dubs. I've certainly never been as happy with a car as I am with my Jetta, it is a joy to drive. The TSI engine sounds like a pearler to me, I must visit my friendly dealer and con a test drive just for fun!

Be like me, Jetta is 14 months old approaching 30,000 K's and she has never been behind the wheel! Am worried that if she does we will always be fighting over who gets to drive! Besides, her driving scares the crap out of me and I'm damn happy she doesn't know about this forum so she won't get to read this!

                    Cheers

                            Good ol Subys!!

I too was a dedicated Suby fan owning an early model Liberty & then an Imperza Sportswagen. But had an occasion to drive up to the Hunter Valley in a Vento ( Golf with a boot or if you like, an old model Jetta) I was truly amazed at the quality & refinement not to mention the sparkling performance of the 2.0litre (1E I think it was). When compared the Subys wheezing 2litre & piss poor economy it was like chalk & cheese. Later model Soobys stuggle with lots of warranty problems these days. Did anyone see that the maximum torque of the latest impreza motor now is developed at 6250 rpm!!!! How ridiculous is that!!! Since that ride in the Vento in 1997 I have owned A Mk4 GTI & currently on a Mk5 TDI.....wonderful ,wonderful. Once youve tried VW youll never go back...or something like that!!! the saying goes. Bazz
