  • Cost and mileage of R32 stock tyres

    Hi Guys,

Have an R32 arriving in December, and had a few quick questions......

(will start a thread for each one to make it easier)

Q1 - What sort of mileage are ppl getting out their stock Conti tyres?

Q2 - Has anybody trialled the Bridgestone alternative? If so, how were they?

Q3 - What sort of $$$ are ppl paying for their new tyres?

Its more so to get a guide as to what to expect in terms of maintenance.

    Thanks guys.

hehe, kinda figured that one! hehe

I'd say I'm a sensible driver that gives it a squirt every now and again. Love my cars and rotate tyres every 8-10k, balances etc.

Was more looking at it as a guide.

Are the R32's coming with conti's now?

Mine came stock with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx rubber

23000km thus far, and have been rotating them (back to front, off rims side to side). Still have a bit of life in them! I rekcon it'll be around 30-ish before I'll need to replace them.. ofcourse.... if I go on many more GTG's....

I'm thinking of trying the Goodyear Eagle F1's next time around, but haven't started pricing yet....

Mines running Bridgestone RE050A's. Excellent tyre which hangs on for dear life and seems to be wearing fantastic. Though have the advantage of nearly all freeway to and from work. Done 9k so far and about 15% worn. Hoping to get 40k out of them. Much better than the contisport 2's which only got 18k on my previous GTI.

R32 is here and sounds awesome, loving the throttle blips on the down changes.

my new GTI has the bridgestone re050s and so does my friends. Seems thats what has been coming on the latest batch of cars. I havent seen a price to replace them yet but im hoping its not stupid. So far im impressed. I did a 250km run through the mountains yesterday and they really do grip well and get the job done without any fuss at all.

Gee you're right.... that is chalk and cheese!!! hehe

I have come from a piece of sh*t 2004 SAAB 9-3. It was so bad that the original one was replaced as a lemon! Sunroof stuck, electrical gremlins, engine stalling (it was an auto!), stuttering, shocking suspension etc. They look great...but they drive like sh*t. Biggest mistake ever.

Meanwhile, my partner (in that space) has had 2 wrx's and at the moment has a 3MPS.

Can't explain just how annoying it was driving the 9-3 after the rexies or MPS.....

I won't mention the BUCKET LOAD of cash i lost on the heap as well!

I SERIOUSLY can't wait to get this thing....

....you have to wait till december... that fricken sucks but hay.. nice Crissy present for yourself!!.. lov to see that under the tree.. ...
i only had to wait 4 days.... and i thought that sucked !! ..

Im surprised to hear about the saab being a lemon.. I was in melbourne early 05 and had a new 93 turbo soft top for 4 days... Avis.. not bad... but i thought the car was quite good..(for the 4 days i had it).... sorry to hear your experience with a 93 was so bad.....
You will love the R ..... no question....
are you planning any mods for the car ?.. The stock R does understeer when pushed hard.... and from watching the handling difference...i was behind another R32'er with the haldex controller upgrade fitted... & was glad that i put in order a few weeks back.....(controller shifts more torque to the rear, eliminating understeer).... seeing the rear bite for traction before the front did the same was quite impressive.... and i could see the extra "push" he was getting....
i have a short shifter going in tommorow.....Haldex controller should be in my hands soon... then ill see..., i want to do something with my intake but not sure how far to go with it.... may just get a replacement filter to change with the stock....? we'll see i spose..

                            mario.

I ordered my R32 today and have just found this forum. Re tyres, my existing car is a Liberty GT with Bridgestone RE050s and I must say they are incredible tyres. Price is expensive though at about $370 each.
