We are having an ongoing saga with our 2006 MkV Golf.
We had the windscreen replaced by a company (who won't be named). They fitted it, but the headlight/windscreen sensors wouldn't work.
After a couple of phonecalls, they said, can you please disconnect the battery as this should reset the sensors, I knew it wouldn't, however I complied.
Once we reconnected the battery, the sensors still weren't working AND now the amber steering warning light came on.
The windscreen guys came and had a look and said they couldn't find any fault with the sensor connections, but arranged to take it to a local VW specialist (non dealership). The workshop found that they had bent some connector pins on the sensor. Easy fix, albeit long and drawn out, for the sensors.
Now, we are struggling to get the PAS warning light to go. The workshop tried with their Rosstech VAGCOM, it didn't work, so today we dropped it off at Barloworld.
Just received a phonecall saying the steering is fine and that it is the sensor in the steering column that needs replacing (Yaw sensor??)......$1200.
Anyone know an easier/cheaper fix. Does the whole column have to be replaced or can the sensor be separated?
Would disconnecting the battery be the cause of the problem? If it drops below a minimum voltage, does the sensor fry itself?
