Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Mine is a late 2006 (2007 spec)
the first one is the one with a diesel particulate filter (not available in australia) i'm 99% sure that all aussie delivered 103kw cars are the BKD engine code (the second one). make sure you get that smoke problem all sorted before you start tinkering with anything like that because your warranty will be voided immediately (even with the oettinger one).

I'm looking at getting myself the 1.4 GT Sport with DSG. Barloworld are quoting $39,560 for the manual and $41,920 for DSG for a barebones car. Bit more if you want the Diesel.

How much can I expect to get shaved off with some good haggling?
a lot. be radical. dont pay more than 39k (that includes floor mats and boot inlay of course). that being said, tell them you want to pay something around the 37 mark and gauge their reaction. always have them thinking you're gonna walk out the door and buy a mazda 3 mps

I will certainly get the smoke prob sorted first. The engine in mine has the particulate filter. So I should be able to see the BMM code somewhere in the engine compartment?

are you sure it does? im nearly 100% sure that none of the 103kw cars here have it... can anyone clarify?

My Dealer indicated that my MY07 has a DPF. Also I think there is a warning decal inside the fuel flap about using biodiesel because of the filter. I'll check tonight when the missus gets home.

Also the engine should be stamped in the handbook. I'll check this tonight too!

Correct on all counts. There is also a warning light that will come on if the filter collects too much - if that happens you just drive it at above 2000rpm for 15 minutes or so to burn the particles off....

              Cheers Spoddy!

I've not had the warning light on yet though. Has anyone had the light come on?

The warning light hasn't come on with mine either but with my smoking problem (see the diesel forum) the first thing I did was read the manual and found the information. I ran it as it said to do but it didn't fix the smoking problem.

                    First time poster!

Just picked up by brand spanking new red Golf GT Sport Manual on Friday and I love it! Sooo smooth but still sporty and I get 700kms out of a tank without driving like a granny! Picked it up from Camberwell VW (Melb) and couldn't be happier.

I think I'm going to be tempted by the software upgrade too, 150kw is calling...

Excellent choice (but I'm biased). Welcome aboard.
