GTI radio - record traffic updates

hey guys,

any of you get the function on our radio where you set the time to record traffic updates (i think it's the TIM button? ... don't remember exactly).

I can't get this to work? or is it cos this function is not available in AUS?

There is a function where data can be sent with an radio signal. It can include things like station name, style etc etc. It can also be used to flag certain info. Examples are news, weather, traffic, etc etc.

Its designed so you can tell you radio to scan and switch automatically to any news or traffic reports when they come on. Another use is you can scan for station playing "Rock" or "Country" music and it could pick up on that too.

In Australia few radio stations send the station name let alone any other data, so your pretty much boned. No reason it couldn't work, just no one uses it.

As for recording things?? If it can do that at all it is a function of the head unit using the data described above. I don't know that I have heard of one that could record, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Are you sure it's the data service thats being used?

I know in Sydney the tunnel can overide ALL stations to broadcast messages, ocassionally you catch the test message. It's not the data function, they are simply broadcasting on all frequencies. If for no other reason than not everyone's radio supports the whole data thing.

It pops up on dads old Audi and his new Passat as TRAFFIC INFORMATION, so im pretty sure that they are using both.

For what it's worth, my Jetta picks up only one FM station here in Melbourne has the TM carrier wave. Can't recall which station it is but it's not Gold 104.3.

Can someone please explain how to get this to work??
There is the option to setup 2 Times to record: I've set my time for 7am and 4:30pm - trying to catch the peak hour traffic updates - but it has recorded nuthin yet!

pack your bags,
move to europe,
buy a left hand drive GTI,
set-up traffic reports.



Won't work in Australia, no matter how hard you try as mentioned above the radio stations don't broadcast the data channels with tagging.

Mine flicks to WSFM when I use it, not sure if it records or anything, never really bother as Traffic is bad anywhere you in Sydney and listning to a Recorded message reminding me how bad it is doesnt help the situation
