  • Pirelli Price/Looking to buy

    Hi All,

Been reading the forum for while and finally decided to join up.

    Great info/ Great forum.

I am looking at getting a Pirelli. I really like the way they look.

I wanted to ask for few opinions.

There are few for sale on carsales.com and I have noticed they take long time to sell. Some of them have been on there for few months. I keep an eyes on gtis as well (YM06+, DSG, Leather under 60K) and have noticed that when they are priced reasonably (25k-28k) they seem to go with in 4 weeks usually.

Pirelli seem to take a lot longer and they seem to be a bit overpriced. There is one on carsales at the moment for 30K and it has been there for few months just like few other ones, he started with a lot higher price but evenly droped it down.

One of my good friends saw it few months back and he said the car is in reasonably good condition with some damage to the rear door panel and few scratches on one of the wheels. Can be fixed($1000-$1500)

Another thing he said is the car is always parked outside (the guy has no garage from what he can see) most of the time.
How would that effect the paint and the leather being exposed to weather all the time as we all know we get some hot sunny days through out summer?

Also the rego just expired and its due for service.

How much should I offer him..

Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciated.

Offer him $25,000 and make sure it come with a pink slip if its over 5 years old,the weather does not look kindly on paint work and the interior , depending if he's desperate you just might end Pirellid up with the Pirelli.

Remember too, that the 60k service is a biggy, especially if you're looking for DSG also. I'd be double checking what type of service is due and keep in mind that if it hasn't had it's 60k major you'll be up for $1200 give or take (+$800 or so for timing belt due at 4-5yr age mark).

I think a lot of people don't "look for" the pirelli's. Turns out there was a nice one in my price range just as I bought my GTi. Pirelli's gained 18" rims and more power out of the box, and were only availbale in DSG (IIRC), and are 08 onwards as well. Most will be still under / just out of warranty, and (at the moment) 11 of the 13 are under 60k, so these will set the market rather than the other 2.

Whenever i buy a second hand car (regualarly) i always offer a touch over REDBOOK trade pice. Because the way i look at it, if they are desperate they will take $1k more that what a dealer will offer.

Don't let the asking price fool you, sellers are dreamers 99% of the time.

All my cars i sell to the first person who looks at them, i price them accordingly and don't lose too much money and they sell. Having said that, because i got them at a good price i can always undercut the advertised price of equiv cars straight up.

            Cheers.

I almost got a Pirelli, but for a few thousand more, I got a new mk6. That was a year ago.

having said that, the Pirelli does have more toys as noted but will NEVER be a collectable car a la Ferrari 275 GTB four cam. The original owners would have paid a bit (and no corporate discount if the ED35 case is anything to go buy) so they are taking a hit of nearly $25k+.

The dealer here at Brisbane (Austral) has a black one with 46ks for $37k, my guess it was traded for $28-$29k and they would probably let it go for $33-$34k. It has been in their stock for a month or so now.
Current ride: 2014 Range Rover Evoque 5 Door TD4 Pure | 9 Spd Auto | Fuji White | Black Leather | 19 inch 'Dynamic' Wheels

                  hey all

                  Thanks for the input.

I did some figures and I don't think that this pirelli is right for me. Lets say I get it for 27K.. I have to put rego $800, services $ 400 repair damage to side and the wheel $1500... that's $29 700.... and the car has been not been garaged. For 30K I can get a pirelli that has been garaged when not in use....

I still cant understand some of the pirelli owners and the money they are asking.....after 2- 3 months and still no sale... at the end of the day it is the market (the buyers) that the determine the price and what they are willing to pay for a particular product...

the hunt for the right pirelli continues...

Good luck Mike, they are worth it in the end though. A great last form for better things.

Don't forget that car has a huge (coined scratch) 2 feet long on the front guard, anything up to $1k to fix and they will have to blend the doors and bonnet. Don't forget come resale time you will have to try and explain the repair (photos) help to any new buyer as a Pre inspection report wil pick it up.

Pirelli's may seem over priced compared to a normal GTI however they did cost almost 10K more then a normal GTI back when new.

The additional extras on these cars should give anyone a good reason to pay a little more then a normal GTI in the used market and if you are interested in gaining a little more KW the Pirelli is by far the best choice.

I think they're definitely worth the extra money. Basically a detuned FWD Audi S3! When you get them remapped they end up making around the same power as the remapped S3's! If I'd known they were coming out when I bought mine I'd have definitely waited.

FYI - My mate's brother owns an 08 Pirelli, 5dr in blue with about 40km I think. Was looking to trade it in for a new Range Rover Evoque and got $17k!!!!!! Obviously told them to f-off so not sure what he is doing about that one......
