  • WOO its finally here!

well I took delivery of my candy white 2 door gti today.
All went reasonably well although the handing over was a bit of a shamozzle.
I had an appointment to collect the car and when i got there it was parked in by 3 other cars! And then they couldnt find the keys! And then the guy who introduced me to the car was like.. "there is the key, thats the radio. this is the heater controls, thats the headlights. its all pretty straight forward really"

so yeah they parked it outside. And when i tried to unlock the passenger door i had no idea u had to press the button twice. So there i was looking like an idiot trying to get into my own car

I finally managed to get in and i checked for the missing bottle opener cos i had heard of so many people having had it go missing. And well. Itwasnt there! I walked back in and asked about it and they were very appologetic. They even gave me a free first aid kit! So all was good. Until i got 15kms up the road and my attention turned to the stereo. Which was asking for its unlock code! DOH! I called them this arvo and they said they dont have it as its not available on the system in germany yet. so ill have to bring the car back to any dealer and have the code retrieved and the stereo unlocked. So no funky tunes till then!

one last thing was the service manager didnt seem to be too cluey either. Comments like "I dont think you need to run the car in at all" were a bit worrying. You do or u dont. hehe. The idea of maybe or maybe not stuffing up my engine doesnt really appeal to me much. And 1st service at 15,000kms seems a bit weird. I might do an oil change at 1500kms just to be on the safe side.

Other than that. Quite happy with the car. Cant wait to get a few kms on her so i can give stretch her legs a bit.

      Hi Tim,

My unlock code was on a little card in the manual. You might find it there, from memory i think it's a 6digit code??

              Congrats Tim.

Doesn't sound like the dealership that delivered my Jetta.

They took and 1 1/2 hr to run through the features of the car. They also had it under a car cover in the show room and did the big reveal AND introduced me to the Service Manager. Fancy being able to literally drive out of the show room.

Please tell me it's not a dealership in the Eastern suburbs as I would be disappointed that there standard has slipped?

Again congrats and enjoy the ride!

nah it was South Yarra VW. Their biggest claim to fame is leaving in the suspension chock thingies. I know of at least 3 people they have done that to. Ud excuse it once! Not to worry anyways. Ill most likely be getting the car serviced at glenwaverly (ill see how they go with my radio. im sure they will be happy to steal my business) As they are closest to home. Only reason i got the car from south yarra was their sales people were actually friendly.

Wow - how different dealers treat their customers.

Mine was way different. They drove the car into the middle of the showroom and went through every switch and button and feature on the whole car with wifey and i. It took almost an hour. Even under the bonnet pointing out to wifey the washer fluid, dip stick and the like. Showed us the tools in the boot and what was required to pull the caps out.

They even apologised for not having Champagne and a congrats sign at the font of the showroom as we brought the deilvery date forward by 2 days to pick it up on a Sunday and the admin person didn't have time to go buy it.

They also were missing the bottle opener but dropped it off to my house a week or so later.

However the service dept don't like going to in depth with the answers when you ask them technical questions.

well....my exp was worse than Tim's.

I bought my car over the net and phone from Sydney (i'm in Melb), the guy basically couldn't give a rats arse. No bottle opener - after about 3 unanswered emails i called the manager there and was finally sent that.

I also emailed to make sure they put me on the list for VW Mag, again no reply!

I would have expected more paying 40K plus for a car....

                      Congrats on the CW, Tim.

when you get deliveries like yours it's no wonder forums are so popular for finding out general stuff

i had the sales guy tell me the bottle opener was an $80 cost if it wasn't in the car! he eventuallu "found" one in the bottom of his drawer. scratched to hell but at least i got one.

this forum has told me 10 times as much as the dealer ever could.

though he did mention HPA tuning to me which was concerning for a dealer!

Geez Tim! Congrats on the GTI but the whole thing sounds like a joke! Especially the part with the radio code! How is a car built not on the computer??!!

When we do pre delivery checks at Renault, the cars details are put on the system as the car is being built and all the details are on the system.

My MKV TDI has not got that double unlock feature, which I am glad about...
