“The next update will incorporate Isofix,” confirms Craig Newland, chair of the committee for the Australian Standard for child restraints for use in motor vehicles. “We just want to make sure there’s compatibility with vehicles on the market. We don’t take any backwards steps in child safety.”
a possible translation could be "Australian car manufacturers, which are represented on the committee, have indicated that, because they are likely to fit isofix points (points which have been available on most mainstream European and many mainstream Japanese cars for at least a decade) to Falcodores, they are happy for isofix to be included in the standard as they will no longer be perceived as less safe for families.
Means I might not be breaking the law any more soon....ish.... maybe
"the Isofix system has a lower rate of incorrect fitting than the top-tether system used in Australia." I think is probably the more important point. Many of my friends have a "professionally" fitted AS seat, only to be undone when someone presses the wrong seat belt release when sitting next to the seat and then it isn't put back the same way again (until they pay the professional again or otherwise)
