Ta mate. yeah I went a little bit stupid with this car I suppose. The damned thing owes me well over 6 figures now.Originally posted by gh172 View PostLove this car! One of the best Pirelli's around .Never spot you on the roads around Perth though.
Once you start you gotta keep going though.... Anything taken to the extreme gets the thumbs up from me!
I got a tip on another forum about removing the oil filler neck required for the engine cover... Took the old ugly neck off, looks great now eh!

I've got some R8 caps for the oil filler and water tank on the way. That'll just about do it.

Car looks mad, Not my favourite colour but different. There are to many different colours in the engine bay. I can't see were have you have spent six figures. Looks like APR are making a killing..lolOriginally posted by kryten2001 View PostI went a little bit stupid with this car I suppose. The damned thing owes me well over 6 figures now.
So is stage 3 APR like a stage 2 Giac? Whats the difference? Sorry don't really know never played with either..
What sort of 0-100 and 1/4 times should we see?R36 Twin Turbo Golf 650hp 0-100 3.1sec 11.106@125mph.

It's not been down the quarter since the upgrade, but I would anticipate around 12.5-13.0 I suppose. I did a 13.7@106mph on my old K04.
Can't tell you the differences between tuners. Frankly the whole 'staging' thing confuses me. The Stage 3 for APR is a GT2871 turbo, which is about the right size you want to run on a 2ltr without rebuilding your top end.
You can tell the car REALLY comes on song right at the top end of the RPM range. To get any more power I'm presuming you'd want to spin up more RPM - and to run a stock motor over 8000rpm probably isn't such a smart idea..
I know some guys run bigger turbos than a 2871, but that's when you really want to start thinking about rebuilding at least the top end, and most certainly the bearings/rods if you have a stock FSI.
400hp or so will do me. The car's really light, has brilliant suspension/balance and absolutely superb brakes. It's only a FWD remember, 400hp is nuts enough!
For now...
PS yeah, I couldn't find any red hoses for the catch can. I'm still looking.. The blue ones will have to do for now.

yeah I honestly don't know. I can tell you it makes bags more power than when it was on the K04 though - but not until the car really starts to boogy does it all come in (>5000rpm). Not sure how that equates to quarter mile times, probably a second at best I'd say.Originally posted by DeanCorp View PostFor what it's worth I got a 12.9 @110mph and 13.1 @ 113.95mph with k04.

The engine upgrades (in total) cost around $10k. The real money is in all the rest... Brakes, wheels, suspension, tyres, exhaust, FMIC, HPFP etc. You'd be surprised how quickly it disappears unfortunately.Originally posted by AP View PostI can't see were have you have spent six figures. Remember the car cost just under $60k new (RNS510, BiXenons, Rear Sensors etc).... Expensive love for sure. But you only live once and I decided I was going to plow my heart and soul into a Mk5.

A second no way!! Traction will be your biggest problem. I could never run a big turbo too much lag for the street. K04 is the best balance IMO.Originally posted by kryten2001 View Postyeah I honestly don't know. Well it feels like it would/should, but like I said I dunno - I can only tell you that it feels as much an upgrade from the K04 as a K04 is from a K03.Originally posted by DeanCorp View PostA second no way!! All that being said, power is only one part of the package of any car (albeit a very important one). The brakes, suspension and grip also make up a huge factor in how everything comes together.
Drive one and you will change that opinion very quickly! It's good mate.Last edited by kryten2001; 22-10-2011, 09:18 PM.

Haha, I'm sure it is good! Although I knew two guys here who had Big Turbo's in their GTI's and they both said they preferred the drive in a k04 and mine felt better overall, sure you don't get the pull like you do in a BT. But when it came to 1/4 and even a drag, I'd win every time.Originally posted by kryten2001 View PostWell it feels like it would/should, but like I said I dunno - I can only tell you that it feels as much an upgrade from the K04 as a K04 is from a K03.
