I drive my car harder when it is stock then when the stage1 map is installed.

I also drive very conservatively until the engine is warm.

OTOH, my neighbour jumps in their stock BMW, reverses out of the driveway & floors it immediately, does this all the way to the shops 5minutes away & all the way home again - the engine doesn't even get warm. Plus they were telling me that they still hadn't had a service in more than 2 years.

My wife doesn't treat her cars much better either.

So which would you rather, the Skoda with a map, non-factory HIDS & Audi wheels owned by an enthusiast or the stock BMW owned by the highly paid executive that buys a car because it has cred in the company carpark and thrashes the tailpipe off it?

As someone said previously, you have to take each car on their merits. There have been a lot of modded GTIs on this forum that were sold with years of pleasure still in them & a few that you wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

      Or this car:

As reliable as a Volkswagen Golf - YouTube

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
