MKV TDI Dogbone mount upgrade?

Hey Guys,

I had the front bolt snap for my dogbone mount see pic:



I have had the snapped bolt removed from the bottom of the gearbox

I am going to a nut and bolt shop to grab a replacement bolt to get the car back on the road but in googling this problem I have come across these from ECS:

Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Drivetrain > Mounts > ES#5669 Ultimate Dogbone Mount Kit - ECS198851M

Are they compatible with a MKV TDI? I think I have read before the factory 1.8T dogbone cn be used as an upgrade for the MKV TDI - just cant find anything to confirm this.

This is the second time I have had problems with this mount, first time causing a massive failure blowing the AC line and destroying the belt this time it has touched but I think I have lucky avoided too much damage.

Also if anyone has the specs handy on the bolts pictured with the mount on ECS that would be great.

I found this bolt sitting on the oil drip tray and now after my searching I believe it it one of the rear dogbone mount bolts, can anyone confirm?

Sorry Dan, totally different design, ECS has the VF engineering billet one, but you'll notice Tim at Dubaddiction has the BSH billet one cheaper....

Thanks for the info, ended up getting on the ECS live chat and as you said the one I was looking at is not compatible.

Is the one from dubaddiction a direct replacement? It is not listed in the compatible cars.

The standard design isn't exactly flawed, however loose bolts wont do it any favours.

Do the upgraded pendulum mounts (the VW name for it), make much difference? I've fitted urathane bush inserts into MK5s before, but I've not noticed any changes.

I researched pendulum upgrades and apparently for TDIs they make the idle vibration much worse.

PM Tim and ask, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. It's what I would buy.

Interesting about the idle vibration, and I think that pertains to direct engine mounts more in the Golf platform, as I have the APR Stage 1 insert in ym pendulum, and it made zero difference. I know Scotty went Stage 2 in his polo TDI and now he gets a full body massage at each set of lights...but the polo platform is an entirely different setup.

I think from the pictures above there has been some serious shearing force at play to snap the bolt like that. Most likely as you say by something being loose.
There have been failures on tuned cars of that small bushing after a Torque arm insert has been installed.

On a diesel I would probably look at replacing the broken pieces with stock parts. Once installed its probably best to make sure there isnt excessive driveline shunt. It is possible that the side mounts have collapsed as well. Excessive bucking of the engine can put strain on lots of things. The stock configuration is already pretty sloppy.

In regards to upgraded pendulum mounts on diesels. Everyone has differing ideas of what is acceptable and what is not. The entire BSH pendulum mount is engineered to firm things up without adding much vibration at all on a Petrol engine. Perhaps we need a guinea pig to see how it goes on a DSG equipped TDI.

Greg something to consider, the first time the bolt snapped, it took out the aircon line, radiator hose, alternator belt and damaged the back of the thermo's all up about $1K worth of damage. I was very luck that second time round it has only rubbed the belt on the aircon line slightly.
