  • Golf 2.0fsi intermittent stuttering but no error codes

Our Golf mkv 2.0FSI is suffering of intermittent stuttering (slight loss of power), but no error codes are showing up. It mostly happens when the engine is running fairly light (eg. instant fuel consumptions shows around 4-5l/100km on the computer), mostly at about 2000 rpms, eg when doing 50km/h in fourth gear. It rarely ever happen at idle nor when accelerating.

Am looking at some ideas on how to diagnose it, since the garage has told us to 'monitor the issue'. Am I right that the best way is to have computer diagnostics hooked up to the car while driving, to monitor performance parameters looking for things out of the ordinary?

Could be failing coilpacks. There was a recall on coilpacks for MkVs a couple of years ago. Take it to a dealer and get them to see if your VIN is on the list of affected cars.

Wouldn't the garage know about coil pack recalls already?

Call up the VW dealers - only they will know about recalls.

My tdi does this also, although not often, every time it has been when cruising on the highway at extremely light loads. When it does this the fuel consumption on the mfd is always quite low (less than 4.0L), not sure that this is related though.

I was very worried the first time I felt it, not too worried about it these days though have just learnt to live with it.

Will check with the dealer regarding whether it was subject to the coil pack recall (if the dieseles were affected by this?). It's always serviced at vw dealers though so I don't imagine they would have overlooked recall issues.
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

Are you referring to the 28F5 recall, btw? We already got that one done in February this year.

I don't know the code for the coilpack recall sorry. Best to check with the dealer.

yeah its 28F5. Just check the coils are still all the way in, i have seen them pop back up due to air getting caught and compressed inside the coil boot when installing them.

                  It could be bad fuel.

Definitely not bad fuel, have been refuelling many times.

Shouldn't problems with the coil packs show up as error codes?

Its needs to see the misfire continously before it logs, if it only happens for like 1 second it will most likely ignore it.

It can be much more than 1 second at a time.

It seems to happen mostly after driving for at least ten minutes. Could it possibly be temperature sensor related, or something else related to temperature?

well it seems temperature related, as in most cases your car is up to temp after 10minutes of driving. Very hard to say what it is though.

Lately i have been experiencing the exact same problem, slight power loss, and shuddering when accelerating as the power comes back. I have noticed that it happens on warm days like today, and only when the engine is up to operating temp. no errors codes come up. my guess is it could be a bad fuel pump?
