Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I suppose from a value point-of-view, you could've done better. But as far as the tyre itself is concerned...

I feel that the CS2 responds better in the wet. But having said that (being in melbourne with tram tracks), it didnt slide around as much as the CS2 when I am on top of the tracks. Driving in the dry, didnt really feel much difference to the CS2 except for noise. Much much quieter. I am not sure how stiff the PS3 sidewalls are compared to the CS2 but it doesnt feel like its rolling alot. I had a pair of RE001 before and they were soft.
Most tyre manufacturers recommend you take it easy for the first 500 - 1000 km because tyres do not provide optimal grip when new.

Generally, wear rates tend to increase particularly for low profile summer tyres, though it couldn't hurt to add 0.2 bar (3 psi) to the recommended (normal load) pressures on the placard.

Of course, the only consolation is the amount of grip and handling prowess these sorts of tyres offer. As such, it would be a waste not to exploit this, thus engaging in some 'spirited' driving on the weekends would be in order, wouldn't it?

Yeah roughly about that price. Jaxquick had a Michelin special.

I asked the tyre place for Assym1s but they turned out to be Assym2s, which is not that ideal, but never mind. The tyres themselves, so far, have been excellent, just would prefer the same model on all four wheels.

I had probably done almost 10,000kms on the Assym1, including a track day at Wakefield Park and the wear rate was looking pretty damn good I have to say. Not sure what the dude was doing if he was running out of rubber after 15,000kms???

Anyway, I've had plenty of Goodyear tyres and been very happy with them. They're not cheap (cost me $795 for 2 @ 225/40/1, but they're quality.

I was lucky as I'd taken out the Goodyear Tyre Protection Plan at a cost of $6 a tyre. So when my wife holed the sidewalls in 2 of my F1As I got replacement F1A2s for $138 each. I'd done 14000kms and still had 5mm of tread depth left.

Did u get these from Tire Rack, and if so what was the approx price delivered?
The more I think about it, the more Tire Rack sounds like a good idea.

I damaged a tyre on a pothole Friday (235/35 R19 SportMaxx GT) got quoted between $635 and $745ea for replacements!! (plus, even though I've only done 8000km, two would be required)

So now I have 4 x Super Sports on the way for $1300 inc shipping, better than the $800/tyre I was quoted here!

Decided on them after reading a bunch of tests and reviews including this one: **Tested** The New Michelin Pilot Super Sport | Porsche Blogs

So if anyone is after two OEM SportMaxx GT's with only 7800-rear-wheel-kms let me know! (or one that was on the front, probably slightly more wear, you know, with all the accelerating and turning and all...)

Benna, I hope you factored in the import duty/GST/agency fee/local fitting/old tyre disposal into your overall price assessment.

Still works out cheaper to import, but the hidden costs can add an extra 30% to the original cost

I've ordered 3 sets of tyres from tirerack all over $1k plus a set of coilovers over $1k and not once got slugged with import duty! Fitting would cost $20 per cnr. Keep the old tyres as spares in case you blow one and need to wait a couple of weeks for a replacement from tirerack (done this also).

thezone, are you offering sexual favours to the guys in customs?

I ordered some snowboarding gear which was under the $1k threshold, but by the time it got here the A$ had dropped in value and took it up to $1010 - the buggers slugged me for $300 extra before i could have em

Yep, even if I get slugged with the lot and it does add 30%, that makes the 4 tyres cost the same as 2 here.
Fitting is cheap, and I'll keep the oldies!

I always allow for this possibility

I've never had problems either. Make sure you dont declare the value as the total price including shipping. Its only the cost of the item.

Getting this Thread back on track...... I have had new PS3's on my R32 for the last 6 weeks. (235/40/1
Very impressed after running in. Turn in is exceptional. Better than the Dunlops and Yokos Ive has previously.
Seem to be equal in all other areas too (hard to judge).
as I said, cornering, best so far.
