  • stuck pass. door lock.

Hey all, in a spot of bother here, my front passnegers door lock is stuck. I can hear it trying to lock/unlock but I can't get the door open. Any ideas how to tackle this??

You cannot open them - you will need to take it to your nearest dealer to open. Its a common problem with the Mk5 - I had 2 fail in my car.

I had this happen to me .. in the morning it wouldn't open even from the inside (double draw) and I could try and unlock it/lock it over and over and no go. In the afternoon it would all of a sudden work. Then all of a sudden it never faulted!

Took it in for 75K service and no fault could be found, but they quoted me something like 500.00 to replace.

Anyone know if this would be convered on new car extended warranty - VW Original?

      Regards

      Phil

Okay well I usually start by getting someone to press the unlock and lock button(repeatedly) on the drivers door, whilst they're doing that keep opening the inner and outer door handle(obviously do it with the window down). Keep doing that until it opens, if it doesn't try banging(using the palm of your hand) the bit of the outer door skin where the lock would be. It does help free these lock, either way your going to need to replace the door lock once you get it open.

It is to do with an internal electrical fault of the door lock

Hey Phil, they should log a fault if there is an issue with the door lock.

Funnily enough, I had this same fault on my driver's door a couple of months ago. Rectified under the third-party Allianz extended warranty... Which ran out in May. Typical right?

Off to the dealers it is I guess...

Thats pretty much how the dealers get them open too. Very common. I find its generally the rear doors that are faulty

If only. My drivers door has gone! Doesn't lock or unlock without the key now... At least it's a door I can use the key on!

My left side passenger door lock failed last year. Would only open immediately after unlocking the car. It was a replacement door lock that cost $380 to replace. Fortunately I had two weeks of warranty left.

I used to get in the passenger's side when my driver's door went. I contemplated climbing in the window though...

Oh, and my passenger's door has mysteriously started working again.

It's going in for a servce this month so, will get them to do a scan and try and wrangle VWAus to subsidise the repair since it's quite a common problem. Pretty crappy design fault if you ask me... *sigh*

Oh i thought this is a rare problem that could never happen to the reliable vw! had the same problem with my left rear door jam for ages, couldn't open from either inside or outside, and you can hear an extra click when you unlock. Mysteriously fixed itself now but could come back anytime, and extra bad timing as it just come out of warranty last year. bugger

The front door lock itself costs about $315, but they will bargain and do it for less!

Did mine today, took about 1 hour total, no surprises and it all works perfectly again. Be aware you do need a triple square bit to get the latch off the door!

Gah. $512 to get mine replaced. Getting the EGR valve and front driveshaft boot replaced at the same time.
