Did mine today, took about 1 hour total, no surprises and it all works perfectly again. Be aware you do need a triple square bit to get the latch off the door!
I think you mean MULTISPLINE bit haha, yeah you need a M8(multispline) and both a T30(torx bit) and T20 to do the job. Quite easy only takes me about 20min to do

I've always known them as triple square because you get that cross-section by overlaying three squares, two rotated at 30 degrees and 60 degrees. But yes, they are also known as multispline.

Just had our first significant fault, and its the left rear door lock, also within the last two months of warranty.
Tried the fixes above, no luck, off to dealer.
i assume the warranty will cover it.

My warranty covered my first (driver's) door lock, while in the warranty period, but, of course, not the second (passenger's) lock, which went a few weeks after the warranty ran out...

So, we rang Monday and got in on Thursday to be told there was a part needed and we will be called when it arrives.
Meanwhile we were told the doors had been temporarily fixed.
walked to the car, tried teh doors, no change.
Back at the counter left standing for ten minutes. Do you think they knew something?

That's pretty unlucky. Get vagcom and check for error codes, there'll be "intermittent" errors on the drivers door if it's the wiring loom... Both the locks and the looms are a problem. Loom is a problem where it bends between the door and the a pillar...

Yeah they replaced the loom last time. I'm hoping its the loom again cos that will be a free replacement, says the dealer i normally go to...

Might find someone else to do the oil cooler though. They want to charge me $700+ to replace that.

Hopefully it is the loom but to have 2 fail... Unlikely. Maybe the door latch has finally shat itself!

Yep mine is busted as well so a cheap source would be nice. It would only open from the inside at first, then I took the door skin off and played around with it and then it wouldn't open at all.

I managed to get the front door open by taking the trim cover off the rear door. This trim is the trim closest to the B pillar. Once that trim is off with the rear door open you can use an extension to undo the bolt that holds the front door handle on (might have to Farrah the front door trim off) and then reach in the hole and open the door. Now my front passenger door doesn't lock at all

I ended up ringing Austral VW again and they knocked the price down from $341.60 to $268.10 without even trying to haggle!
