It seems that their shipping cost have increased subsatantially originally quoted US$245 for frieght but found out that tires were old (manufactured in 2007). I then looked for some others. In the couple of weeks or so I was looking the freight costs increased by US$135 to US$380. As this put it total order over the $1000 mark (for GST) I decided to by them here as Goodyear are having a buy 4 pay for 3 offer. Also keeps money on OZ. One thing to check is the DOT code for the age of the tyre. The ones I just got from Beureparis are all 10/11, so nice and fresh.
You picked up the F1 Asymmetrical's? Are they still made in Germany?

Yep F1 asymmetrics, too dark and too cold go out and see where made. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Had a look and made in China, where everything is now made!!

I was recently at JAX'S tyres and asked for a quote for 4 225/45/17 91y continentals for a GT golf and was given a price of $1,000 fitted and balanced and a free rotation every 10,000km and i'll know where to go if some thing goes wrong with the tyres, so some times it pays to shop around

freight costs at tirerack seem quite variable - used to be $180 for 2 or $280 for 4. Surprisingly, a mate was quoted $315 for 4 (3 months back but when he asked about 5 tyres, the freight price dropped $45..... go figure.

            Which Continentals?
It's one thing to "get a quote" and another thing to actually order them. I've had quotes from Jaxx before, then gone back to get them to order it (like the next day after I've called up everyone else) only to find they can't be ordered as there are none available anymore.

That's the case with the ContiSportContact 2's anyway. They're out of stock in most sizes when I called them 6 months ago to get a single replacement, and judging by friends and forum members in the past month, the situation is no better now.

Or i could go to St George tyres and buy 2 for $480 plus fitting, Actually JAX import the Continentals direct from Germany no middle man.

                That doesn't answer my question...

The OP was looking for alternatives because he couldn't order the CSC2 locally (though, granted, he doesn't state who he asked). I too tried to order the CSC2 locally a few months ago, specifically from JAXX, and whilst they could give me the quote, when they tried to order them they called to say that their supplier is out and advised that they will not be getting any further sutock, and no other JAXX store in the country has them either. Thus, I went with another option.

And also, the link you provided was for CSC3's... so maybe that answers my question

St George are well known for selling tyres that are not design for Australia (North American winter tyres) and tyres that are old. I'd steer clear of them and buy them from tirerack or someone you can trust.

I dont know why you would say that as they clearly state the tyres are 2010 ?And there DOT approved .

Tyres are 225-45-17 CONTINENTAL SPORT CONTACT 3 Performance Tyres

2010 production could mean January 2010 so they _could_ be 18 months old and have already lost a fair bit of performance (~15% after six months).

They tyres may not be destined for this market, may have been stored incorrectly or may have been fitted to wheels.

Maybe they are a bargain but going on past performance I'd be very wary of products sold by them like the performance tyre sold by them without mentioning that they were US spec winter tyres not suitable for our conditions and were a few years old.

St.George, Taleb & Tempe Tyres are a 15minute drive up the road from me. Tempe have very much lifted their game in the last few years, St.George aren't too far behind. Taleb aren't my cup of tea & I never enjoy calling in there for a quote.

Given the massive turnover at both Tempe & St.George (esp Tempe - they'd be selling 500 units per day x7 quite easily) I'd doubt they are still selling new/old stock tyres these days. Whenever I go to Tempe, it's an excellent customer service experience. They get their cheap prices by buying in volume, no different to the originators of the concept in the 70s (Matthews Tyres Campsie) and the subsequent imitators like Wheels, Australia's Best, etc.

                        Leopards can change their spots.

                          brad,

I have to disagree with Tempe Tyres lifting their game. I bought a set of Denver GTI rims off them not long ago via Ebay ad. It says used but NO scratches and in pristine condition in the ad, ok so I go and saw the rims in their basement and sure enough no scratches, I asked again how old were the rims and which yr GTI it came off and the guy says about 4 mths old car the owner changed to aftermarket rims straight after so the rims are spotless. It was afterwards I discovered that these dodgy bastards had repaired damaged rims and then spray painted it, they didn't even cleaned the brake dust from the inside instead spray painted over it. My fault for not checking the underside but never doing business with them again.
