  • Mk5 GTi Seat Fabric + Tyres required

    Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me locate some seat fabric for a repair required to the drivers side seat bolster on our '07 GTi ...
My wife has worn a small hole on the outside face of the bolster edge from a stud on her jeans..
Any clues on where to source this fabric...?

My other request is for 2 new Continental sport contact 2 tyres..(225/45/17)
My tyre supplier tells me they are no longer available..
Any tips on where to buy new old stock or at least very good used tyres in Melbourne...?

    Thanks
    Tony

A wreckers or your local dealer can supply the fabric in seat form (you can buy the sections from the dealer).

I wouldn't buy an old tyre, they lose performance over time and the CSC3 has been out now for a few years. Another tyre that ranks equally as high in tyre tests is the Goodyear F1 Assymetrical. Consider buying them from tirerack.net and you'll save a heap on the Australian price.

We are also looking to sell the car soon and endeavouring to keep the car as close to original as possible..

Brian, I have sent an email to MJ Interiors and await their reply..Thanks also for your assistance.

          Hi Tony.

Surely the two tyres you need to replace are on the same axle (i.e. either the front two or the rear two). It doesn't matter if you mix different makes and models on separate axles (i.e. 2 Goodyears on the front, 2 Continentals on the back, or vice-versa). It only matters if you try and mix brands/makes/ages on the same axle. i.e. Having a Goodyear on the front left and a Continental on the front right or having a Continental with with 40,000km on the front left and a brand new Continental on the front right.

So if it's the front or rear tyres you're replacing, then Maverick's suggestion is a good one. If it's the left side or right side tyres you need to replace, then you have to replace all 4 anyway...

In any case. The CSC2 has been unavailable in this country for quite some time now. Tirerack are likely your best bet for finding old stock of them as well

CSC2 are still available from tirerack. USD190 x2 + shipping will be just under USD600.

I agree with the others, get some CSC3. Put the two remaining CSC2 on the front & the new tyres straight on the back. If you've worn a hole in the seat & (as it appears) never rotated the tyres then i'm sure there are a few other issues beyond not having matching tyres.

CSC2 are noisy also - I was so glad when mine came off the car.

Wow, pretty expensive considering the age of the design and especially when compared to its much newer rivals, as well as its successor.

                    Brad,
Sorry to disappoint you but no other issues with the car...
Tyres were rotated front to rear but not often enough to save uneven wear..
Worn seat bolster caused by a metal stud on wife's "designer" jeans catching the fabric...Damn annoying when the rest of the interior is perfect...
Thinking of a park bench as a seat in her next car..

BWAHAHA! I didn't look that far.

A few of my mates have bought from tirerack, they all simply contacted the sales department privately.

Hi I've just been talking to tirerack about this also. It seems that their shipping cost have increased subsatantially originally quoted US$245 for frieght but found out that tires were old (manufactured in 2007). I then looked for some others. In the couple of weeks or so I was looking the freight costs increased by US$135 to US$380. As this put it total order over the $1000 mark (for GST) I decided to by them here as Goodyear are having a buy 4 pay for 3 offer. Also keeps money on OZ. One thing to check is the DOT code for the age of the tyre. The ones I just got from Beureparis are all 10/11, so nice and fresh.
