  • Just ordered MY08 Jetta! So excited!

    G'day everyone!

Went to the VW dealer yesterday and ordered a new Jetta TFSI!

    The specs are:

    Deep black
    Anthracite
    Sunroof
    Charlestons
    Tint

Apparently the car's status is D.I.R.. anyone know what that means? The salesperson mentioned that it meant that the car was off the ship, awaiting to go through customs and compliancing... and would be around 4 to 6 weeks before it's fully ready for pick up!.. such a wait.. patience is virtue..

I'm very new to this forum and it'll be my first VeeDubb so be nice!
Thanks to all those people that responded to my PMs! You've been a great help!

Can't wait for the car to arrive.

Anyone know a good place that'll go a good clear coat at a reasonable price in Melbourne?
Any leather care advice that u can share? The last thing I'd want is for dry and cracked leather after a few years.

    Thanks everyone!!!

      Hi turboveedubb.

Can I confirm with you that you ordered a MY08 Jetta and will be delivered
      in 4-6 weeks.
Are you sure its a MY08 and not an MY07.
      Thanks Neil.

Yeah, apparently all the Jettas coming through now are MY08 models.

And yes it will have the new multi-display 'plus' unit.
I made sure that's what I was getting.

The model number I got is: '1K22V3/08', it was printed on the sale contract.

        Cheers!

just remember the dealers pay next to nothing for extras ie leather, so that gives you more bargaining power. youd want at least 2k off that price id guess.

I hope to get at least 5K off and the IPod dock.

I'm not in a real hurry so I can wait for a demo model to come around too.

                    Sounds like a sweet ride!!!!

4-6 weeks to go through customs sounds a bit extreme though, i have heard of it taking 10-14 days? dealers are great at telling porky pies though

Yep, you guys were right, 4~6 weeks was a bit of a porky.

The dealer as able to track one down which was allocated to a NSW dealer and they arranged some kind of swap so that I'd get the black one with the specs.

Car was built middle of august and is scheduled to arrive on the dock on 24th Oct. and then about 7~10 days for pre-delivery work to be done etc.

Gonna ring the dealer soon just to confirm all the details. Hope it comes as early as possible, hoping for unusually calm seas so the ship gets here faster... anything that'll make my jetta arrive in my driveway faster!!! I can't wait to jump in the driver's seat.

Out of curiosity, anyone has tried K&N filter in a TFSI? I'd love to hear some feedback about them. If they're as good as the advertising, it's a pretty cheap way to get a few extra KWs.

On the point of caring for your leather, I use the ArmorAll Leather Wipes about once a fortnight (every 2nd wash)....so far so good. You can definately see the difference on my beige leather.

Manufacturer's air filters are the best in filtering. Air filter is very important I wouldn't use K&N on anything they allow to much dirt to pass in the engine.
The power gained is almost "0" and as your engine wears out you will lose more power than you gained plus you will void the warranty if the fault could be blamed at the air filter.

Actually, after reading a little bit about what the clear coat actually is, people say that it's basically just a layer of hard wax. I've also read posts from people who have dark coloured cars and the application of the clear coat has resulted in swirl marks on the paint.

So after that initail post, I decided against a clear coat, especially when it costs so much. For the same money, I can get multiple kits of premium car care products. It does take a little bit more elbow grease, but it does maintain the paint better... according to others that I've read.
