Redbook states you can get 6.1L/100km on the highway from a 2.0TSI Jetta. I know Redbook isn't the most accurate source of information, but that's a big jump to 7.8... I'd like to get low 7's to Sydney with three people in the car plus luggage.

I wouldn't believe Redbook. That figure is the extra urban figure which for my 125TDi was supposed to be 5.0 and I've never really been under 5.6 for extra urban driving.

I get around 700 kms from my TFSI jetta. %60 highway and %40 city driving. I use my aircon most of the time. Also I don't drive like a grandma.

OK I found out what a 125tdi is, I thought all GT golfs were 1.4 twin chargers duh..
All I can say is bring on September, I will have a nice big juicy deposit to go shopping.
Hmm gti or gtd or jetta turbo...

Actually the Mk6 GTD is quite a different animal to the Mk5 125GT TDI - read my review of it here -

I'd be really surprised if you could do this. I get mid 7s if I'm lucky on the freeway from Canberra to Sydney by myself with no load. Claimed mileage vs actual mileage are 2 very different things.

The petrol turbo jetta is very capable sports car in disguise. With a software upgrade, it would be a total beast.

Average? Wow, what are you doing 80kmh? On a flat mine will hit about 3.5 - 4.0l but as soon as its an incline will go up to about 8 so it averages out at about 5.8 - 6.0 over a good run from say adelaide to Melbourne.

Nice choice and welcome to the club - like I said before I would never choose a GTi over an R32 but its a strange choice if your main motivation for the change was fuel consumption, I still say that the best choice for you would have been a GT TDI - I hope you at least test drove one prior to buying the R32.

Rarity / difficulty of finding a GT - is this an issue where thad lives?
I guess it is the sound of the VR6 that gets to R32 fans, so that they no longer consider the alternatives.

Actually its my bad- thad wasn't the original thread started with the fuel economy motivation. We still haven't heard from Kane Tools as to what he's buying or bought.
