Can someone tell me if this is a genuine GT Sport?

The title says 2008 Golf V GT Sport 125kw diesel but my question is the car has no GT badges front or rear (I did a google search and others all have GT badges). Any other ways to tell. Also how do you tell visual differencce between 103kw TDI engine and TDI 125kw engine?

Looks like a GT sport to me. Has the GT wheels, sport seats and the red I in TDI.

Yes the only thing missing is the badge off the grill.

No - only GTs have GT badging. The GT Sport didn't have them on the back, only on the grill.

Badges are easily removed. So I wouldn't just be going off a badge. I didn't think they had a GT badge on the back only on the front. I'd be checking to see if it had a front end smash and badge was never replaced.

The GT predates the GT Sport and was only imported for a year (07) before the GT Sport was introduced (which was a amalgamation of the Golf Sport and GT models in 08 ).

The GT and GT Sport models are identical except for a couple of cosmetic and trim changes (one of which was the deletion of the GT badge at the rear). The TDI model was also introduced with the GT Sport. So AFAIK no GTs have TDI engines.

Another thing to note is, on that particular example, its lower rear bumper has been replaced by one off a GTI.

Silver on the bonnet appears to be mismatched compared to the guards and bumper.

Get the VIN and PM it to me. I'll find out tomorrow at work.

Yeah if someone looks up the VIN you will know for sure. Definitely check REVS too.

Other than the missing front badge (no biggy) and the different rear lower valence (nice pick up OraQube!) it sure looks like a GT Sport. The black headlamp bezels are a give away (only the GTI & GT Sport share these [Halogen type]). Plus the black door/dash strip trims are GT specific too. If it had cloth, that'd be the easiest way to tell - leather is too hard to pick. Looks like they are factory leather seats (the heater switches are visible on the console).

Noticed it's one of those models with the wacky hybrid bee sting/shark fin antenna.
Oh, and it looks like he's stuck a GTI spoiler on the hatch end too.
The GTI's is larger and has a flat edge to it - unlike the GT/Sport.

Still, best way to check is via the VIN #

Triode's right - the GT came only with the TSI Twin Charge petrol engine - 420 of them from memory (300 DSG, 120 manual).

With the petrol engines the GT 1.4 has TSI on the engine shroud, whereas the 1.6 and 2.0 comfort/sportline were FSI ??

With the diesels the GT TDI has a fabric battery cover and the 103 has a hard plastic cover. Rough, but an obvious difference. Also get a faxed copy of the VIN page from the owners manual, the engine code for the 125kw is BMN.

No, its only got a TDI badge with the "I" in red but you can always add a GT badge like I did -
