Can someone tell me if this is a genuine GT Sport?

the GT came only with the TSI Twin Charge petrol engine - 420 of them from memory (300 DSG, 120 manual).

Thanks for the info BB. That makes the GT as rare as the Pirelli in Australia! If you count only the DSG models, it is even rarer. 320 vs 400 DSG Pirellis.

I'd still rather the GT TDI over the TSI, simply because I don't like twinchargers on such a small car.

Thanks for all the great info guys - probably gone off this example - someone mentioned silver paint was mismatched and along with missing front badge makes me think its been in a front-ender. Changing of the rear bar also sets off alarm bells.

Don't write it off till you have had a chance to have a look at it. It is not easy to tell from pics alone. The front badge could have been nicked by some school kid - they are very easy to remove.

You can tell if it has been in a front end crash by looking at the bolts holding the panels onto the chassis. If they look like they have been tightened (scratched circles underneath them), then it is most likely been in an accident otherwise, they should look unmolested with the factoryl paint covering them.

Don't take what I said as ammo to write the car off. It's just what a fresh set of eyes can pick at a glance.

It's certainly sparked some intrigue amongst the masses, though, and deserves investing a bit of researching into.

It's going to be one of two things; a quick repair based around easily-procured parts, or a dealer or owner wanting a bit of individualism by mixing and matching parts from other variants.

Dont worry too much about the rear bar, i replaced mine with a GTI lower one, as it looks better.

Ditto on the rear valence.
Mine has Ormanyts too and a GTI front lip, so yeah - go look at it.
He may have 'tinkering disease' like some of us...

Maybe its just had the bonnet re-spray because someone keyed it? This happened to my wifes car and they were unable to properly match the paint - now everyone thinks its been in an accident.

Go have a look - its actually at a very good price too.

Its exactly the same as mine except for the leather seats, Ive had mine over 8 months and it was first registered in Feb2009 with 38,000k
on the clock and i paid $26,000 after some haggling with the previous owner , so there is some leeway to get the price down if your keen .
