Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cleaned up at round about

On the way home just 200 meters from home going through a roundabout, when a green P plater decides to come through on my left,I was 3/4 into the roundabout when she hit me .
I mostly got panel damage 2 mudguards front bumper and bonnet and grill ,able to drive away , she had her R/h wheel pushed under and was unable to drive the car
she didn't have her P's displayed and was on the phone, but i didn't tell the police that as she is with Alliance and I'll be making a claim against her through GIO ,
    will post photos latter.

        I never cease to be dismayed at the number of drivers who;
        a) don't slow down when approaching a roundabout,
        b) don't give way to traffic already on the roundabout
        c) use their mobile phones while driving

Not telling the Police seems to be a gallant act on your part Ian, but she needs to be taught a lesson. People get seriously hurt thanks to careless attitudes like her's. She's lucky I didn't witness the accident because I would have told the Police exactly what I saw.

Yep sorry to say after losing a friend by a novice driver who was busy organising their night out, got no time for people on their phones whilst driving, bluetooth etc makes it easy, but holding and texting nope.

I would have called the police and spilled the beans.
Is she hit you hard, your car may be written off and its in your best interest to prove that you were not at fault.

            Hope it works out okay.

Ian, if you need to prove negligence on the part of the other driver, ask the Police to check her mobile phone records, they should be able to determine that she was making or receiveing a call at the time of the accident. I'm really sorry that you Jetta got smashed like that. I really feel for you mate.

That could be a good idea, since she went onto the round about and Ian has damaged front and she, from what I red, the back of the vehicle and she could blame him.

No her damage is to the R/h front including front wheel pushed under broken balljoint, r/h front guard and r/h drivers door ,
i was about to exit the round about , i came in at 6 and was exiting at 12 she came in at 9 as if on a clock, and she has already admitted to the police she didn't give way, and today after i gave my statement of the event he told me she would be charged with failing to give way

I would insist the gearbox is checked as well, I reckon there's been a fair bit of force applied onto that wheel ...

                            Ditto.
Sad that this has happened multiple times (to different people).

I had to go to the smash repair place today to pick up some items i left in the car , just by chance i noticed the other car was there also,
strange seeing there are plenty of repairers in the Penrith area ,
One of the workers at the place commented on the fact that the Golf stood up very well against a 4 wheel drive which had to be towed away with a broken drive shaft , must be the Steel used in the guards and the design of the protective cell of the car ,
