Own Servicing- Resetting service lights

For those that do your own services on your VW - how do you go about resetting your service code on the dash?

I've seen a unit for sale at ECS that can do it

Home Page > Search > ES9950 ES9951 > ES#9951 V-Checker Scanner - Basic - VAGCHECKERBASIC

But is there any easier way?

The owner's manual could tell you how to. It varies from model to model.

I'm pretty sure it's a fairly simple thing to do. Something like: with the ignition off press and hold the trip reset button then turn on ignition then release trip reset button and turn off ignition or something like that. I'm sure a search of the manual or the net will find the exact procedure. I did it once about 3 years ago so memory is a bit fuzzy.

Key off, hold 0.0 button while turning the key on, "Service now" appears, release 0.0 button, then press the Min button. "Service now" will dissapear.

To check, turn the key off, and back on again, and wait 5 seconds or so. If it doesn't re-appear, you've had success.
